Default Virtual DJ: AVDJ Software with automated beatmatching

I use to DJ a bit for friends on parties using Virtual DJ. Since the last release (3.2) it supports hardware accelerated playback of MPEG-2 and normal playback of AVI files. Its beat detection algo is very good, I even managed to beatmatch without headphones with just a little shift I corrected while second track was in background. There are some nice internal visual plugins and just yesterday developers released a freeframe wrapper. It supports alot internal audio plugins + VST plugins. Did not try if you can control VST and freeframe by midi but internal plugs can.
Great tool for one-man-armys.

Some skins made for AVDJing (what a word..)

that sounds like just what I'm looking for...

if it works

I especially like "Its smart suggestion engine helps you find the right track when you're dry."

that does actually sound useful, but I was taking the p1ss a bit with my comment

I mean, this thing beatmixes for you, chooses your tunes, what else is there to do, other than arrange some nice visual effects for the visual mix

mind you, that said, that's why it's perfect for cheating newbies like me

I guess this "suggestion" function is for noobs, I always prepare my playlists in advance and have enough songs in mind to change it if crowd does not react on the things I prepared. Pandora is great since it can point you to songs you did NOT have on your PC before.

The automatic beatmatching works surprisingly well (at least with most music that was made for mixing), best engine I found so far. Its not that I could not beatmatch by ear, did this for years, its just that it helps alot if tracks come up at right speed and close to sync. Just needs a bit of tuning and match is perfect most time. I did even manage to play without headphones one evening. Also the loop function and the beat slicer (instant Aphex..) opens up possibilties to mix a Vinyl DJ just can dream of.
I will never understand those DJ?s who look for the most modern music while in the methods they present it they are conservative like hell.
And yes, with this tool anybody can beatmatch without alot training. (Even though you won`t get songs perfect mixed since beatmatching is just the basics.) Some people will call this cheating, but those are like the ones who say: "You are not a real man since you don`t carry your stuff on your back: These wheels are just cheating..."
It was just a matter of time until Algos got good enough.

Ok, back to Video. There still seem to be some problems with video playback (f.e. it does not playback my cute Picvideo clips at all), be shure to prepare your files in advance (MPEG-2?). But then you have the option to output in split screen, recapture it on another machine and apply the visual mix with you preferred tool. Thats my aim right now, lets see how far I get. :P

i am currently playing around with vdj to see if it useable to do a *live* av set from

i am hiwever using a full version of 3.01 and when using linked cross faders the audio blends as you would expect it to BUT the video mix doesnt -it just switches at the centre crossing point on the fader

any ideas as i cant see any way of sorting this out in the config options

does it blend the video clips on later versions i.e. 3.02 or 4.0 (that gets a mention in another thread)

I've been messing with it, and I love it. My favorite feature is mapping cue points to my midi controller (Oxygen 8) and then instantly triggering parts of clips. It's like using Vjamm, but without all the headache of trimming your samples down.

I've got a 2 output audio card, so I can cue in headphones for beatmatching. Fun stuff.

My DJ and I have been using Ms. Pinky for doing AV sets where we mix in music videos, but I hope to move us over to Virtual DJ asap.
