Hi all,
somewhere I read that the Korg Kaoss Pad Entrancer only puts out half the resolution you put in. Is that true? See: My Powerbook output is 320x240 pixel, and it would be nice if I can put the Kaos Pad between the Powerbook and the beamer without having juicy 160x120 pixel resolution. Any thoughts, experiences & suggestions are welcome. Thank you, Jan |

Last time I spoke to a Korg representative they told me it was 320x240 fixed.

people are very confused about this (including korg reps from the sound of it.. - now theres a shock - audio product salesman don't have a clue about the new video products their company makes!!)
the entrancer does not resample everything to 320x240 some effects apear to be low resolution due to a lack of anti aliasing on edges. all in all most of the entrancer effects are full resolution or do not significantly degrade the image quality - a few of the effects are really bad though.

It's not 320*240, and it doesn't maliciously halve your resolution (that's crazy talk! How would it know?).
Your KORG rep doesn't know much about his video products (why am I not surprised -- they've done their own reputation more damage... ).Certain fx that resize the image are chunky because it doesn't have any sort of anti-aliasing ability. FX that alter the color, the sampler, the blur, looper, flip, etc..., these fx all have quite decent quality for an analog fx box. Best thing is to play with one rather than listen to Korg reps who've never used a video tool in their lives. Even though your res is 320* it is likely that your computer is using a hardware vidcard to anti-alias the pixeldoubling on output. Unfortunately, when you use the Entrancer's chunky fx, they will likely still be chunky. |

I thought about using GRID 2 (my source is 320x240) but my S-Video output is scaled to 640x480.
So if I would use this Korg Kaoss Pad Entrancer my quality would be a bit worse, right? Hmm? I dont think thats what I want. Thanks for the input so far. |

What are you looking for? What fx do you need?
If you're ok with 320*240, I honestly don't think the Korg will offend you too much.

Yes Holly. I'm fine with 320x240.
Effects that sound interesting to me: Hue, Tile, Strobe, Blur, Mosaic, BPM Stuff, Rotate 180?, Delay. I'm sure there is other cool stuff which I don't know by now. I'm looking at an eBay offer for about 500?. |

The only fx out of those that is sometimes chunky is Tile (again it is because the image is resized), but there is a cool Tile fx variation where each image (tile) is delayed slightly from the one before.... It has lotsa possibilities.
All the rest of those fx are great quality. Really, the Korg is very cute and very usable.... Scratching and looping alone is worth it. The only drawback is that I can never remember the number for which effect. You have the 8 presets (your choice) but still I forget easily -- or I remember my favorite numbers but not which fx belongs to it. I'm kinda ilnumeric. If you can get one at a good price you will not be disappointed. It is front-and-center in my kit now.
