Default FWD: VJ-DJ Mixing apps

just forwarding this:

"
I'm Angel Garcia "Edy", and I'm software developer and DJ.

I'm currently developing a video mixing application you may be interested in for reviewing. This application is intended to play musical video clips just as if they were plain audio files (including pitch, accurate positioning, etc.).

The application's name is Deejaysystem Video VJ-II. You can find latest beta version here:

http://www.deejaysystem.com

Feel free to contact me for more information.

well it's a start - it seems able to play most formats but lacks the ability to smoothly pitch change / bend and stutters quite a lot also it can't crossfade video just does wipes.

its slightly more usefull than neuromixer but still firmly in the unusable camp at the moment

I take offense to the above comment. Please explain what you mean specifically.

cheers,

i mean that "Deejaysystem Video VJ-II" is able to playback most avi types as well as mpeg1 and mpeg2

it suffers that same audio glitching problems as neuromixer but unlike neuromixer it doesn't crash suddenly with no warning (as of yet in my brief trials)

i don't want to publicly slate neuromixer as its a free app and anyone can try to use it if they want to...
but in my trails of it i've found it to be totally unusable due to major stability issues as well as a lack of support for avi files types (see my comments in the grid pro thread for more on the avi support issue)

neuromixer is very typical of a max patch in that its features heavy and performance light - I'd much rather have glitchless speed control than all of the "advanced features" currently offered in the neuromixer family.

sorry if this offends you - it is not intended to.

none taken.

The majority of Neuromixer users are on PC. I run Neuromixer Pro on a shuttle PC for all my VJ gigs. This past weekend at a friend's party, it ran all night without crashing once.

I guess what I'm saying is, although it crashes from time to time depending on what media you are loading and what software you are running at the same time, I'm very happy with the performance of my max patch based app.

I understand that many VJs have a library of AVI based clips, but quicktime movies runs great on PCs too.

I gave Deejaysystem Video a run, I can't get the audio working. Any suggestions?

I think all of Sleepytom's problems will be solved as soon as he gets off his lazy ass and makes his own idealy perfect vj app. Perhaps then he'll stop slandering other peoples hard work.

I don't think anyone can accuse Sleepy of being lazy - he's speaking as he finds, it may sound harsh, but it ain't as harsh as you would get from investors, venture capitalist and other professionals you may meet when trying to promote a product.
Straight talk is never popular on this site - but it is necessary and, on the whole, productive providing the straight talker knows what they are talking about.
If some app crashes too often it is unusable (or to put it another way "still in development") simple as that - developers shouldn't take offence, but use the feedback to improve the product.

Speaking from a country where a soap actor was once paid ?1,000,000 in damages when the "Sun" newspaper called him "boring" .

LOL

I think VJ Fader understands and admits himself that the app crashes for him. IMHO you should look at those bugs first before embarking on adding new features to an app. Surely a VJ app that sometiems breaks in the live enviorment is a bit like a make of condom that sometimes bursts.

crashing or not (I haven't gone further than starting up the deejaysystem app)
my point is the app plays mpeg2 (does it for sure? haven't tried it) and while it may not be too fancy in the mixing dept. and may stutter and spit on the pitch shift...its still exactly what countless "mtv-type" video DJ's have come here pestering us fo (assuming it plays mpeg2). A simple program that lets them play their ripped, promo-only DVDS from their hard drive, as well as MP3s! prolly doesn't do kar files, but thats not too hard to get around, just a matter of capturing to mpeg or something.
works with that hercules thing too

does the author of the app know we are taling about this here?
