Hi,
To those of you who have used or checked out the pioneer DVJ x1 DVD players, how was the lag time when you switched from one angle to another? On the DVD players that I have used it always takes about a second to switch after you push the angle button, I was wondering if they have lowered this lag on these performance oriented expensive tricked out little hotties. From what I understand it would be tough to implement, and maybe also dependent on how the DVD is authored, but one can only hope. (multiple read lasers, buffering, etc.) Side question, does anyone know of ANY DVD players with zero lag angle-switching? Thanks, topher |

with the dvj-x1 in dj mode, when you change angle both video & audio playback is stopped temorarily (due to writing to buffer memory)

From what I understand the angle track is not always next to the main track. (depending on authoring)Therefore the laserhead has to move to a different location on the disk causing the delay. Even if it was next to the track it would still have some delay.
I imagine that since the DVJ loads 3gb into ram that you would have instant access to that track. Maybe it doesn't load the angle tracks. It should, it would be a great way to switch between video and still have seemless audio. |

I don't use the Angle feature - I'm all about the Hot Keys. Hot Keys let you grab Three points (A,B,C) on a disc (live or in advance and memorized via on board memory card) and play them back seamlessly- No Delay at all. I use this feature to do live re-mixes of the music videos. It takes a little musicianship, or- as in my case, at least the ability to count to 8...but it can help keep you from turning into just a human video jukebox. DVJ's are more than they are cracked up to be IMHO. I've been working with a pair of them for about four months and they are a treat.

Have you tried this? Because I thought using DVDs with multiple angles took the DVJ out of DJ mode into Normal mode. |

no i've not tried this as i'm always in dj mode but that's what it says in the manual - i'm with vj jason all the way, these machines are awesome.
i will try and mess with the angle button sometime this week and report back if no one else comes up with a answer.

Thanks for the replies!
vm3100, look forward to hearing what you learn. I did not know there were different "modes". Maybe in "normal" mode there is less of a delay when one switches to a different angle? Im sure everyone sees what i am thinking of. Would be really nice to master visuals DVDs with different angles that are all somehow in sync. -topher |

I've just double-checked the manual, and that's exactly what it says.
"If the angle is changed when the player is in DJ mode, both video and audio playback will be temporarily interrupted (due to writing to buffer memory)." I don't have any multi-angle DVDs at the mo, so can't test it, but I would assume that in NORMAL mode, the change of angles would be instantaneous. But in NORMAL mode, the DVJ is really a DVD player with amazing amounts of feedback, super-high-quality output and a really cool blue led strip on the front (oh, yeah, and the potential to wicky-wick and beatmatch when you go back to DJ mode). ![]() I'd put the multi-angle in one deck in NORMAL, and keep the other deck in DJ mode (if you're not doing audio). |
