Default Using Mirrors to move images on slides

Hi!

I was curious, I currently do just v-4/dvd/computer to projector, but we're starting to play places that need more spaces filled with images.

I have heard of people using motors connected to mirror balls or small mirror arrays to shift images projected by slide projectors in different ways.

Also using old-school overhead projectors with little rotating devices to project moire patterns.

I was curious if anyone knows how this works and if anyone has some pictures of setups for this.

Thanks!

Definitely an old school technique but the results are still cool in my book. I saw this done with disco ball motors and prisims. Very cool

Try projecting onto a disco ball from a realy short distance, the image area shuld not be bigger than the ball itself. Than, stop the motor on the ball to focus, focus on to the wall where the image is reflected off the ball. Cool things to project are patterns, try diferent sizes of patterns with black borders.

you may also want to consider having a few projectors strategically placed, and do the following;
hang a CD in front of the slide projector (4-9" away) dangle it with fishing wire... the best are the CDrs that can be burnt on both sides.. when the party is happening, the air movement will keep the discs spinning around, and the images from the projectors will float around the room... (works better with actual representational images than patterns, as the pattern becomes a moving box but the images become floating images...)

try projecting though moving effect lenses for cameras (like caleidoscope), try, invent and enjoy!

you can do all sort of stuff with light from projectors... i once mirrored light from a water surface that was vibrating from the bass - analogue sound reactive setup

This is similar to how the Optikinetics work. At a friends' place they bought a Solar 250:

Try suspending a cut glass crystal in front of a projector (maybe with a small motor attached). it projects an image out of every facet and gives an almost 3d quality to the projected images. It gives a kind of mirror ball effect to projections. it works well in small rooms.

Default Reflection and refraction are your friends

Local NYC artist SeeJ has been doing great stuff with this concept - I also had the opportunity so see the recent reincarnation of the Joshua Light Show with Josh White and Gary Panter. Went backstage and noticed a lot of hula hoops with stretched spandex and about 15-20 small mirror squares glued to the surface - i think these were tapped from behind to create 'beat matching'

Good show to check out when they are on tour!

you can create a mirrored effect by placing a piece of glass upright in front of the projector. I find its easiest to cut a groove in a piece of wood and glue the glass upright in it. it doesn't have to be a huge piece of glass, about twice the lens width and high enough to reach the lens. Play with different angles, and you can split your image, with part of the light going through the glass and part reflecting to form a second, mirrored image.
not as cool as mirror ball or prisim effects, but another way to get more bang for your buck.
