Default Isadora? 1.0 Released

Isadora? 1.0 is now available at the TroikaTronix web site. I've included the email I sent to the users that lists the new features, etc. Most exciting perhaps is support for FreeFrame, an open source video plugin standard.

Best,
Mark

? Download

Application Only

Application + Demo Files
http://www.troikatronix.com/files/isadora.sit

You may be interested in downloading the full version, as the Isadora Examples file has been redone to take advantage of the new features found the Control Panels. In addition, there is a new demo file called Video Toy that is a simple VJ type patch, again taking advantage of the new features in the Control Panel.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
? New Features

- FreeFrame Video Plugin Support (see below)

New Actors
----------

- 3D Player and 3D Renderer actors allow you to render 3D files stored in the 3D Studio Max (3DS) format. (OS X Only!!!) You rotate, scale, and move the objects in 3D space, as well as texture map live video on to the objects. The example file in the isadora.sit download now contains an example of this.
- Stage Mouse Watcher tracks the mouse (and mouse clicks) over one of Isadora's Stages.
- Sprite actor allows uses video streams to create "Sprites"
- Get Media Count reports the number of objects in a specified Bin.
- The Eyes actor is much improved.
- Send Sys Ex actor for transmitting MIDI System Exclusive commands.

Controls
--------
- The ability to set the Font, Size, and Style for every control.
- Most Controls allow you to set the color to any RGB value.
- New "Background" control facilitates better visual organization.
- You can now set a Refresh FPS for the Monitor control
- New alignment commands in the Controls menu
- Handy movement/sizing commands using the arrow keys

(Many thanks to Thomas E. for super-duper bug reports in this area...)

Other Improvements
------------------
- There is now a true "FPS" counter in the Status Window
- The Scale Min/Scale Max settings now appear in a popup "Inspector" that appears near the input or output you clicked.
- The Video Monitor pane that appears when you point the cursor at a link transmitting video now reports the size of the image in pixels.
- Huge speed improvements in Shimmer
- Comment actor now works as expected

----------------------------------------------------------------------
? FreeFrame Support

FreeFrame is an evolving, open-source standard for video plugins. Isadora is the first commercial Macintosh software to support FreeFrame. As a result, there are now 42 new FreeFrame plugins created by Pete Warden that can be used with Isadora. See the page at http://www.troikatronix.com/freeframe.html for more info. NOTE: These plugins are open source, and as such, are unsupported by TroikaTronix. However, I've tried them all and they do seem to work.

I really like Isadora. It has a beautiful and flexible interface that allows for very complex compositions. I wish it were available of Windows. I do see that Isadora in alpha for Windows, but it has said that on your site for over a year. I understand how difficult it is to create an application that behaves consistently across platforms, so please take your time with it. Fortunately the QuickTime API is almost exactly the same on Mac & Windows.
