Default Collaboration

The more I think about it, the more i like the idea of future avits really taking advantage of the community we have by providing a place where collaborations of all sorts can be performed.

This could involve collaborations within the VJ community (I'm really excited about the idea of some online collaborations between VJs on different continents), or perhaps VJs hooking up with musicians, DJs etc and bringing them to an AVIT.

(I think there should be space for individuals to perform too)

The general sentiment seems to be that this is a good idea, so what ideas does everyone have for collaborative possibilities?

Dan.

How about this for an opner.
The guys that claim to know what there about, don't waste half of AVIT sitting about eating burgers n chips when theres work to be done.

Yes definitely, the experience and ideas of so many creative people across the forums could be harnessed in a most amazing way. One of the best things about avit for me was to meet like minds, and I know it was the same for many other people. I know lots of spontaneous collaborations that are coming about because of meetings at avit, but it would be great if the community in the form of avit could support that.

Educational workshops and discussions are amazing but it would be good to complement that with some creative spaces where like minded people can work together and produce something at avit. I really liked Tom's idea of having residential collaborations before avit- but I think loads of work could also be done online

Default 100% live content creation

one thing i`d like to see or try is a set that is entirely done from live cams. I`ve heard of people doing live drawing and live filming of water drops etc. but i can see some potential in this as a perfromative thing.

possibly a crew of stage perfromers that are all filmed as live sources which could be fed to a vj or team of vj`s doing the mixing.

kinda of a theatre/video crossover.

I think always B and wellredman seem to be on this path but to bring in other talents and visual creation methids could be interesting.

or maybe a tangent of this could be a crew turning up with no footage and creating everything from what happens in the venue. Sort of a live sampling/capture type thing where the footage library is developed over the evening.

Hmm half baked ideas but i`m sure its possible.

Default political/moral video debate

Another half baked idea.....

political and moral visuals seem to be of interest to a fair few people from my chats to people at AVIT.

but as an angle what if there were for example 4 vj crews. Each crew has to take a different side of the political or moral debate.

so instead of a panel of speakers there is an excahnge of video clips supporting an argument. Instead of a host there is a master mix controller

This feels a bit battle like, but it could create interesting dynamics

...sounds interesting...

"sampling vs self-created" - the debate ...as a live performance --

why not

Bump^^^

i`m surprised theres no more suggestions on this one. Come on people. what would you wanna do given the time and resources?

Or do we all fit the artist cliche of being isolated loners that hate working with other people locked in our studios.

dare i say it - i wanna do a collaborative narrative piece, but more on that soon

absalootelly. avit should be a force for developing the scene and those within it, which is surely all about doing cool stuff and bouncing off each other!

(and not spending your whole year away from your art bogged down as an event organiser?)

i think the narrative lab is a great template for this kind of thing - a creative space existing through email and networks beforehand that works up towards face to face workshops and performance at the festival.

avit as a place to hold such performances is just the tip of the iceberg...
