Hey all.
Just did a blog post write up on my plans for my new VJ system. Check it outhttp://vjanomolee.com/vjrig-neo Any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Nice! I had future plans to build something like this when we could buy the ATEM. I also found the sparkfun buttons.
Now working on a fader box for the 1T-C2-750, but ordered a wrong/not working ttl to RS232 box. Now ordered a new one, but it already took a while. I hope it arrives soon. The DIY part of the vjing seems to have a great future. Vjs don't want to pay thousands of dollars for a normal video mixer but tend more and more to the cheaper box (without buttons and faders) and make something themselves. The touchscreen thing is a great example of how diy can make fantastic products. If some enterprise company would make something like this it would surely cost over 2000$ |

Yes indeed. and thanks for your reply.
I had considered getting the TVOne box and using VJ fader's method. But decided on the Blackmagic design's TVS for ALOT of reasons. Stay tuned to http://VJanomolee.com/vjrig-neo for more updates on my system. Im looking at buying some high quality arcade buttons for quick cutting. Think I might put 2 arduino's in my box. One for communicating with the ATEM and the other to act like a MIDI controller for controlling other software. Side note. Any idea on what else I need to get these Sparkfun LED button pads to talk with Kasper's software? |

Download the library and start checking the examples, after a while you'll understand
![]() There are lots of annotations in the beginning of the examples, so it's quite easy. |

I'm not yet buying either one but might be in the near future. What made you buy the ATEM instead of the TVone?

The ATEM is a different category then the Tvone.
If you are interested in mixing a few laptops (hdmi) and sdi cameras, the ATEM is the box for you. The downside is it can only handle standard resolutions. The Tvone is only for 2 laptops, but can handle all the resolutions you want (triplehead etc) and has good scalers (and a keyer, but the atem has this to). We have the tvone, and it's perfect for our needs (we don't need sdi inputs, because our gigs are to small for decent sdi cameras). |

Speaking of which... (TV-One's)... I couldn't figure out how to connect my TV-One to output a triple-head compatible resolution. Where's that Toby?
![]() I watched some of those Arduino-controlled demos; the smooth zooming is impressive! TV-One's products can't do that, so far as I can tell. The RS232 connection limits command speeds and I think the step size is quite rough. |

![]() And I second the rs232 limits of the TV1 for command submission being chunky - editing the key color has to be submitted as multiple commands for each YUV value (Y, then U, then V), resulting in submissions spread over 2 or more frames. Not good. This looks much nicer, but limits you in supported resolution. I wish someone would step up to the plate and offer a good project. Personally I attempted something with a ARM based developer board, but could not deduce a way to get video input. I was able to do HD mixing on a $200 battery powered embedded device, but without low latency, HD video input... Would love to know more details about this. Again, well done. Love to see a buildout of this.

The Tvone has 64 steps of opacity. It has about a delay of 150ms for mixing. This is a lot of delay, but most people don't even notice.
Just had another disappointment with my project with the fader module for the 1T-C2-750. Everything should work, but the tvone and the rs232 module just don't want to communicate (even bought another ttl to rs232 module to see if this fixes it). In the mean time I just made it send the messages to the computer and the computer sends them over the usb to rs232 stick to the tvone. I really don't understand why the tvone doesn't recieve the messages from the arduino. It should work, but it just doesn't for some obscure reason. Lesson learned: sometimes DIY things don't work for reasons you can't figure out Last edited by alfaleader; 30th July 2012 at 07:51 AM. |
