Default Some interesting questions to ask!

Hi, I'm new the forum here and was wondering if anyone here would be willing to give me some advice!

Straight off the bat, what software do you use to cut/chop-up videos to make clips to use for vjing? I was thinking about using Premiere Pro, but do you guys have a faster alternative software of choice?

I am going to use Resolume for Windows, however I was wondering if there is anyway to put a live video stream/channel within the computer itself into Resolume? That may sound vague, an example would be a video game being put into the video stream. However will Resolume only accept live video streams/channels externally, e.g from Dvi cable?

Thanks!

Adobe Premiere for cutting & Adobe Media Encoder with Resolume DXV codec for export. Works perfectly and if you don't need to export 100 videos every day also fast enough I'm pretty sure this is perfect solution if you're working with resolume.

If you had second screen you could use some sort of fake webcam software and stream it into resolume maybe?

If you have USB3 if using a laptop get yourself an external Blackmagic capture card and that will simply allow you to feed what you want into Resolume. If you are using a tower get an internal one instead. Thats what we do.
For editing clips I mostly use Premire but you may want to consider after effects as as a good app for actually creating new content!
Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the advice! I looked into the DXV Codec and it seems like a great choice! I'm going to export all of clips into 3 different resolutions to ensure maximum compatibility between software and types of projectors.

Unfortunately my Laptop only has 2.0 USB slots, do I really need a Blackmagic card to stream/feed anything into Resolume? Could I not do this through a video cable?

I've used After Effects a lot but will probably be using it to help with projection mapping effects, can't wait to get creative!

Hmmm, I see! Well I have one DVI and one HDMI socket, so technically it might work if I have DVI input going in then HDMI video going out to the projector or vice-versa?

Kind of disappointing if it doesn't work, but I'll eventually be purchasing a powerful PC. Do many of you bring your Computers to events? I doubt I'll buy another laptop for years.

These ports you are referencing ARENT bi-directional they only OUTPUT. So technically it wont work UNLESS you have a capture card as was explained to you some posts ago now.

It is all a learning curve and this place is a good one to get that learning.
