Default FFGL - any user groups / mailing lists out there?

ok, so ive finaly managed to some of the example FFGL's ( via sourceforge ) to compile and ive managed to do some minor tweaking and get them running ( after trouble shooting the bits where i broke the code...lol )

im still pretty much in the dark about whats occuring - its my first real programming attempt ( tried to play with some GLSL last year, didnt realy succeed although i think some of that has helped me to work out the little i do know for FFGL ) most of my learning has been via the "change it and see what happens" method.

ive had a search and found very little online presence ( basicly the forum and developer mailing list on sourceforge ) are there any other places i can pose questions to people as i think mine might possibly be a bit basic for the developers list ) are there any other suggested resources or bits i should brush up on. is anyone willing to be at the mercy of my emails that i can pop questions too?

any suggestions, thoughts, ideas, contacts appreciated

It sounds like you need to brush up on basic OpenGL, and basic GLSL. You might want to experiment with some live coding environments, like Processing, etc, which make it very easy to bootstrap OpenGL, and get things on screen without needing to mire yourself in low level details like OpenGL pixel formats, context creating, native windowing, mouse inputs, shader loading, text parsing, etc. That stuff is boring and solved, and you want to learn GLSL, and how the OpenGL pipeline (programmable and fixed) work.

I suggest #opengl on free node on IRC, and look at their topic for tutorials, FAQs and how tos. There are hundreds of thousands of OpenGL resources on the net, pick one, and start learning.

cool, plenty to look at there, thanks irc is a great idea ( had a quick peek - splendid ) none of my ( local ) friends are vidiots, let alone programmers, so having people to pose odd questions too is well handy

much appreciated

just trying to go through the setup steps.

" So, with premake4.exe in your path, go to the glsdk directory. Type premake4 plat, where plat is the name of the platform of choice."

dont for the life of me know what it means by "with premake4.exe in your path" ive tried running it, ive dropped files onto it, ive tried it in the root of the file im trying to make..... pretty frustrating as i reckon im fine with the following few chapters, i just cant get the examples running to try them out

I'm confused. What are you trying to do?

Just, like, install processing, open frameworks etc and start writing OpenGL!

there's the official ffgl community site. also, this thread might be of interest.
i've got a public assembla space available for hosting source code, etc. you can ask me stuff here or on my blog, where i've written about this subject some.
