Lightbulb Controller for two separate computers

Hello all, thanks for your attention.

I'm running the video design for my collective's anti-opera. I have two video sources that I will project in real time on the stage, so two projectors as well. Though I'd like to keep the signals separate, I'd like to add the same effects to both videos.

I was thinking of running a two laptop set up with Resolume Avenue on each one and then using a MIDI controller to send the same commands to each laptop.

Thoughts? It should be easy enough to split the signal from a controller, no? Any controllers you would recommend? Most of the mixing/modifications are effects based.

its just the same as assigning a single controller to one computer.

you will either need to split the midi to the two machines or use a unit which allows you to use both the usb and midi outputs at the same time.

personaly id use one machine and a dualhead to go instead of over complicating it with two machines.

I use a BCR to do this at moment http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/BCR2000.aspx
but you could use bcf
http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/BCF2000.aspx

Main bottom bank of knobs are used for VDMX control then the top row is used to send midi to Whorlds on pc.
On a bcr you can use it as usb midi or a midi device sending out on 2 midi outputs.
I then use to midi boxes on the computers to take that midi data from the bcr.
Mapping occurs as usual for what ever program you wish to use.

I reckon there would be a way for midi yoke http://www.midiox.com/ to do this for you as well if you only have usb midi control surfaces but you'd still probably need 2 midi boxes. I'm sure they'll be someone here who could tell you more on that. I know midipipe on OSX lets you patch midi signals aroundd easily. http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/10541/midipipe

The boxes I use are these

So it really depends on your hardware controller. As I side note I'm fairly sure that both bcr and bcf can transmit midi on usb and the midi outputs at the same time (mine doesn't cos it's old) so that 2ould mean you'd connect it via usb to one machine then use a midi box on the other.
You could always try one of these though I've no experience in using one.

Controller as always is up to you and what you like to use knobs, sliders, buttons, pads, keyboard so have a look around at different types.

Hope that helps

Default Solution

Thanks y'all. I appreciate your responses.

In regards to your response Mr Coops. I'm going to do basically the same thing, though with a different controller. All we needed finally was a MIDI controller with a USB output and a MIDI output. We'll just convert the MIDI signal to USB and that's that. I checked to make sure the machine can send out givens from both outputs at the same, so this is finished.

Good bending,

Actually, we're going to use the M-Audio Axiom 25 V2. It's entry level, but we don't need many complicated features since we only need to apply effects to the real time streaming video. Here's a link to one. http://www.video.bhphotovideo.com/?f...09a&rf=sitemap
