In Motion 5, there is a field rendering option. I googled it a little, and didnt get any clear answers. It says field rendering is necessary for playback on many TV monitors, but otherwise it can result in bad image quality. So maybe you geniuses can help me.
1. Is field rendering the same as interlacing, or anywhere related? 2. What is recommended for VJ applications and digital broadcast (Vimeo, Youtube, viewing on PC monitors etc) 3. Will either of these settings affect the playback of the clip? Thanks a lot guys!

Another couple of questions regarding settings:
1. I work in 1280 x 800, but want to resize my footage to 800 x 500. Compressor cant keep alpha channels, so I have to manually import them into Motion one by one (its not that big of a hassle) to resize them. Should I apply motion blur and eventually field rendering in the original export or in the resized export? Or both? 2. Stupid question but just to be sure. Will adding motion blur, shadows, lightning etc have any effect on the playback of the video file in any significance?

1. When you say progressive, does that mean that I should turn off field rendering?@
2. When you say no to question 2a, does that mean I shouldnt use motion blur at all? Or that I should only use it in the final export? 3. For question 2b, how does applying motion blur, shadows and lightning affect playback of the clip? When they say shadows, do they mean drop shadows? I thought if I export the shadows in the inital export (before resizing) it wouldnt be included in the final export.

i don't know.
work it out for yourself. your asking quite involved questions about software which very few people use. Generally, you add things like motion blur if you want to blur the motion. You add shadows if you want shadows. If you render these in at one files size then re-compress that file then of course the shadows will remain in the resized file. The actual pixel for pixel content of a final render has little effect on the playback, 32bit files will be less smooth than 24bit as they are higher data rate, other than that it makes little to no difference. As ever you seem to expect their to be 'right' answers to very general questions. There are no such answers, as it almost always depends on the content and the look you are trying to create. Who is this 'they' that your talking about?

You are totally right, I should just experiment for myself using my own content. I just thought that were some general rules among all the softwares being used, or if there were more motion users. Thanks for the information though, now I have something to start with.
