Default Resolution post ... again!

I got a couple of IN2114 as replacement for my old IN2112 projectors which got covered by warranty. However, their native resolution is a little higher, 1024 x 768 instead of the old 800 x 600. When I try to make triplehead clips (3072 x 768 instead of 2400 x 600) my new macbook pro (2011) falls short using modul8. I cant put more than three layers before the framerate slows down.

So my questions:

- In my situation, how big a quality difference is it running at Native resolution, than upscaling?

- I also wondered, do many of you make your clips at a higher resolution for then later to down-convert it to a proper resolution? Is that a way of future-proofing? Or is it better to make the projects at the resolution you aim to have the final clip in (at the time)?
