Thanks peeps.
Will check that company Mashie, going for sponsorship deals to keep costs minimal!! We provide a video and images of the logo used at the event and they can remarket their industrial product as a creative/artistic one. We save £70......win win (fingers crossed). Worth a try. No worry on depth as we have arranged for the tent to be extended out with a fake fronting. This void between the actual tent and the outside will only be for projection so no roaming heads clipping image etc. The projectors will have 0.8:1 lenses so rough calculations we will get a 8' wide image with a 6' throw per projector. Going for 2 projectors 4:3 to get a 16' x 6' image. After a meeting last night I think we might try cameras too. E.g. 2 cameras setup facing in (B2B with each projector) and going into Modul8 before out to a DH2GO. This way we can project the image of inside as if the 16' x 6' screen was 100% see through. This is the backup if we have lighting issues. I have some iSights knocking around - might need to pair them with some led lights as they're not great in low light. However, we are going to sync the main audio machine which runs the DMX internal lighting so when master opacity in Modul8 is on zero, internal lighting (which is low anyway) will be on 100%. This way when the main lighting is off the visuals will light up the inside and vice versa. Bit of a mind dump for now....will keep you posted! |

bear in mind that 0.8 lenses are on-axis so you need to have the projector directly centered in the middle of the screen on both H+V axis. This is important as if you try and offset the projectors and lens shift / keystone them you'll find the lenses cause bad distortion at the edges - this makes it very hard to do a perfect side by side lineup with 0.8 lenses.
also as i'm sure your aware the numbers of people in that field can be excessive - expecting to be able to have a "dead area" in the void between the tent and the frontage is optimistic, if you want to be able to see people inside from outside that implies no significant barrier between the people inside and the projection void, thus you'll have a load of munters in the projection void!

Thanks mate, yeh hoping to be dead on axis on purpose built boxes. Only possible exception is we may hang them to avoid any hotspot and keep them out the way of the line of sight through. In this case we will only be looking to adjust vertical keystone as little as possible.
Have been using this handy tool: http://www.sanyo-lenscalculator.com/ The void is boxed in from all sides except the 2 windows and is within the overall tent size. Hoping to use lighting or additional projection inside to light up the inside and knock out the visuals seen externally. We have pitch details and the gap between us and anyone at the front is the best we could have hoped for. Hoping they'll sort out crowd management a bit better this year! |
