Default Hi, I'm new

Hey,

Just thought I'd introduce myself as I've just discovered these forums. I'm an animator and currently working as an assistant to a video artist based in London, UK.

I'm working on an audio/visual project with a musician friend which will involve VJing for the first time, and I'm planning on buying the Numark NuVJ decks and software. Does anyone have any advice on where to buy it? I've found it for £260 but was wondering if any of you know if I can get it cheaper.

If you're interested, here's a link to some recent work:

Welcome.

NUVJ is ok but you will want to upgrade rather quickly from what I have read.

£260 is a good price but make sure you have a good machine to run it off also.

What machine are you gonna run it on?
I have a Macbook Pro, and it needed 4 gig of Ram and a 2.6 Ghz processor for it to run smoothly and reliably.
NUVJ gets a bad press on here, but it is a decent starting point IMO.
Good luck, hope it ends up suiting your work
£260 is also a decent price

Thanks for the warm welcome

My laptop has an Intel Core i5 processor (4 cores at 2.4 GHz), 4GB RAM (Upgradeable to 8) and a 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon graphics card. I'm running Windows 7 on it.

I was looking at the NuVJ one as it seemed like a good starter model (I've never done VJing before) and I don't have as much to spend on it since recently buying my laptop. Is there a better one you'd recommend? Also, I was attracted to the decks as I'm interested in making use of the turntables etc for this project as I like the idea of "animating in realtime".

NuVJ is great, for me it was the perfect introduction to VJing and has not lost it's luster after 3 years. I still use my NuVJ all the time, even though I've upgraded my kit to include other more expensive software. You can fin them on EBay for about $350 US sometimes....

I'm now gravitating towards getting the trial version of Resolume, and if I like it buying the full version and a Korg NanoKontrol to use with it. The small size and multiple sliders of the NanoKontrol could be useful considering my 17" laptop is pretty bulky to carry around...
