Default Does PS3 Eye work with Live video on Macbook Pro?

I'm ready to make the move from a PC to an i7 MBP. But I need to be sure that the PS3 Eye will work for live video feed. I know there is the Macam drivers.

I'm not sure if I'll use Modul8, Quartz Composer, etc, etc.

Right now I use VJO and am triggering everything in Ableton.

I just need to do the same with a program in Mac. I won't be VJing live, just triggering clips (including clips with live video feed).

Can I do this with Quartz Composer?

A little googling found this:

Looks like I'll be able to make this work!

Isn't the PS3 Eye just a usb webcam? Those only run around 30 dollars or so.

This is one of the best frame rate usb cams I have used. Quality is rather good too. Works with macam drivers. Latency about 2 frames or so.

The real advantage of this camera is that you can turn it into a near-infrared camera relatively easily by removing the IR-block filter.

Yes-as mentioned by others, the frame rate is really high and it does well in dark places. I can get a really good live feed in pretty dark (on stage) situations.

Currently moving my data over to my new MBP :-D
