Hi All, how's it going?
I've come up against some difficulty compressing an .avi. It's 11G, and although I've got 27G free in my flash drive, apparently the file structure of said flash drive doesn't support such large files. So, after converting the .vob to .avi, I've tried variou compressors so far - winrar64 isn't compatible with Win7, zip7 isn't compatible with my processor, and winzip compresses an 11.80G file to 11.70G - not very helpful. Once again, getting frustrated with seemingly simple processes... Pls help!!

look in the winrar / winzip options, you can force it to split to multiple files - you can set the size. so for instance set it to a 500mb limit and it will make 23 500mb files and one 300 mb file.
to uncompress it, you uncompress the first ( or is it the last ? ) file in the sequence and it automaticly treats them together

Many thanks VJAIR. I've compressed in 700MB sections, and am trasferring over to a MAC. I did think compression and unpacking was universal, but perhaps this is where I'm having trouble. Winzip is, no doubt, a windows app, but once the file's zipped, is it restricted to Windows platforms??
Other than that, I've kinda run outta options. The conversion tool I downloaded for the MAC (Prism) won't convert anything, hence the PC>MAC transfer. I'm rapidly loosing my hairline... PS: Quote:

Think I've cracked it converting to MP4. Still unsure as to why the unzip util wouldn't work on the MAC, or why I couldn't import a .mov to iMovieHD. Still, it's sorted now... Thanks again.

For fuksake... Takes 20min to import the MP4, then iMovie closes, needless to say without saving. Twice attempted - wtf is going on?!

Would making a jpg or targa sequence and separate wave file take away your problems?
Or do you really want to create an avi? |

Keet the flash drive in your pocket and invest in a network cable, WiFi or some other "direct" transfer mechanism... or get an external DVD burner for your PC.
