Hi All, this is a schoolboy question, so I put it in the newbie section. When you're mixing live, do you have a bank of clips stored on your lappy, or do you burn your stuff to DVD and spin like a DJ? Are there any particular pros & cons for each (other than hardware space and scrathed DVDs)?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts. |

You plug in a laptop direct to the projector?
Mmm.... I could possibly have spent a fair few pennies more than I could otherwise have done in purchasing a mixer. Saved up for a year for that thing ![]() ![]() Could be a useful point for other newbies. Good back-up tho I guess - expensive, but reliable.

Now isnt possibly the best time to be buying kit that is only able to do deal with SD.
It is a time when we are just starting to be able to get much higher resolutions onto the screen at an affordable cost. Anyway DVD vs clips was the question. IF you put a bundle of loops onto a DVD to be able to use them for scratching you would need a DVJ so really that option with a domestic player isnt one I would consider. However on those longer gigs or at a point where a break becomes essential to have something on DVD that can be bunged in to cover you is no bad thing. It always used to be good to also have something cue'd and ready to go in a DVD or media player as computers and VJ apps werent as solid and stable as they are now.

no, i have a simple (ie. non-synching and cheap) switcher that i can use to choose between laptop/dvd - but the dvd is only for situations where the laptop fails for one reason or another.
