Default Mac: It just doesn't work

Someone once told me that macs just work.

My MBP is THE most tempremental electrical item I have ever owned. One minute it will pick up my trigger finger in GrandVJ fine, will perform perfectly. Then come the next day it won't. It won't recognise it or trigger any clips etc.

And guess where it always consistently works? Thats right, my Win 7 PC. No hassle ever. Works every time.

I've tried every possible combination of plugging in before, during and after startup of OSuX and GrandVJ but still I get nothing.

Any suggestions before I throw both the laptop and trigger finger out of the window next to me?

Tried it with both, yes both USB's. One day it will only work with one, then only with the other.

As a suggestion, I'd say if the trigger finger has it's own stand alone power supply as well as being USB powered then try it with that, so that the USB is only doing data and not power as well.

Failing that, powered USB hub would probably do it.

Tried a different cable? May be dodgy and you got lucky with it on the PC?

There is an issue with the Trigger Finger and USB power with the Macbook Pros.

I had it happen (with OSX 10.4.11) and used a powered USB hub I got from eBay for £7ish.

I recently gigged with it and forgot the miniUSB - USB cable for the USB port so ended up connecting the TF directly to the Mac and had no problems. I was using OSX 10.5.

As deepvisual said, there is a power routing issue with the Macbook Pros which seems to come apparent with Trigger Fingers.

Name the price and when I come to sell it you might be in luck

I'll give it a try with external power to the TF later

Im not a huge fan of Trigger Fingers, students of mine always find they reset and change patches without reason.
