Hi All
We had a fashion show. We used 1 10000 lumens projector to cover the backdrop. however during the show the light guy f*****d up by throwing smoke all over. And the projection was hardly visible. Now the client is not paying us cause he didnt see anything. How do we prove the smoke f*****d up. |

that's just an excuse to not pay.
dont fall into his trap. insist that everything worked before during and after the show. |

Bullshitometer is reading high. Deeps right.
If someone puts a big sheet in front of your screen are you liable for it not being visible?

im sure if that was realy the case, then they would have mentioned it during the event instead of waiting until afterwards.

ask the guy if he saw smoke. If he admits to seeing smoke that's your proof as smoke and projections don't mix, make clear that the responsibility lies on whoever decided to book visuals and smoke. Good luck with it.

"cause he didnt see anything".
You mean he says he didn't see anything. Maybe he wasn't looking; maybe he was lying; maybe something else was going on to stop your work from being visible. None of the above are reasons for you to not be paid. I suppose he doesn't want want to pay for the projector hire. What a nerve. I don't know what jurisdiction you're under, but I suggest you properly invoice him (or whatever it is you need to do to make it official), which will probably give you some number of days in which you should be paid before you can take some sort of legal action. -spxl |

Did you present how it looked to the people booking you/paying you before the show when there was no smoke?
Did they sign off on it? - a verbal agreement that it was ok is sufficient under contract law - Law of Tort applies With a yes to those two questions in place I would suggest that the person bitching dosnt have much of legal leg to stand on

did they want smoke all over the place? (seems odd for a fashion show) Did they tell you there would be lots of smoke? did they do a technical run though with the smoke?
ALWAYS get at least a 50% deposit before the show. Promoters will often try and not pay you. Frequently it is because they have no money, sometimes it is because they are bastards. Either way assume they will try not to pay you. Make sure you have a written agreement in advance of the show which states what you'll provide and how much it will cost. Having this will make it easier to get the remainder of your money after the show |

Smoke is odd for a fashion show, might be that the client is not satisfied with the show as a whole and the promotor is preparing everyone for cutbacks. It's a team product, so often everyone gets to share the blame, even tough it can simply be pointed at one man. Might be that even if he takes the full blame the promotor still needs to cut down to make it work with the client.
Im sure there was a general rehearsal, and if there were no issues there thats your best argument. Last edited by seex; 14th March 2010 at 04:40 AM. Reason: spelling |
