Single Composite Signal split over two screens ?

Is this possible to do ?

Basically the club I do visuals in want to put the two screens side by side and spit the single composite feed over the two screens ( two projectors )

The matrox dual head i dont think will do the job , I run off two mac's and some cameras into Vixid and if I am correct the Dual head needs to be connected via usb cable to your machine .

I suppose I need something along the lines of a video wall processor but cant seem to find any thing along the lines of what I am looking for .

Composite is probably the cheapest, but VGA will be the best resolution.

You need a 1:2 (1:3 if you want a local monitor) distribution amplifier:

Good brands are Kramer and Extron.

Two issues.... showing a pal image on two screens side by side means that the video will either need to be stretched to twice it's width or cropped quite by 50% (top and bottom)

If you want to stretch the image horizontally so that it fits, i would suggest maybe a digital upscaler with an option to zoom and resize/shape the portion of the image you want to upscale. Or, as you say, a use a video wall controller. (i could sell you a controller to do this, already set up for how you need it, contact me via pm if interested)

if you dont want to stretch the image but just magnify it to twice its size, thereby cutting off the top 25% anf the bottom 25%, then you might well be able to use the controls of the projector to zoom the image into the portion that you want.


Please bear in mind with both these solutions that your final projected image will be quite distorted/pixellated. probbaly not great if the screens are huge and the punters are quite near them, but from a distance it will not be as noticable.

Thats not what the OP wanted, liquidmetro. Not multiplying the image twice over but splitting it, so half is on one screen and half on the other.

OR as you are running from two macs you could create the content as two separate clips and trigger both machines with the same midi device, as long as the computers are evenly matched and the clips are not too loooooong and properly compressed they should stay in sync pretty well.

The matrox comes in different flavours. You can get one with an external power supply. The matrox won't do it unless you are ok to ditch the cameras and mixer.

As long as you realise you'll have to upscale to DVI as this box has DVI inputs.

With my suggestion you can still use the Vixid and cameras/dvds as back-up sources, unless I am mistaken the Vixid can mix and output two (or more) separate streams.
This way the only investment would be your time creating the content which I hope you can get paid for
