Default software for 12" Powerbooks?

Hi everyone

I've been working as a video artist and now want to make the move into VJing. I have a 12" Powerbook (OS X/OS9) and wondered if anyone could give me advice on what reliable software is available?

Thanks!

I'm doing the same thing! Also VJing starting from a 12" powerbook. First make sure it has 640 MB RAM (i hate it that it cannot take aGB but ok).

The two packages that I like as a newbie, that are cool to get to grips with and never crash are:

MotionDive .Tokyo (I played with MD3 in classic, but get Motiondive 4: MotionDive 'tokyo' as they call it, because it runs in X) expensive though: 379 dollars

The other one is Fuse Infinity or Fuse Visual Console. Cheaper and very comparable to MD but a little less intuitive, but only 200 bucks. And nice effects!

check out this link for motiondive and this link for Fuse.

I'm going to order Fuse after playing with the demo, I have limited cashflow. But will get MD4 later on because I think I prefer that.

Both are Japanese packages but the interfaces are so self explanatory that you do not really need a manual.

Hi MrD

Thanks for the advice. I've spent most of the morning reading this website and came across this link http://www.audiovisualizers.com/tool...use/rcfuse.htm in VJCentral for Rhythmic Circle Fuse at $99. I think this is the same program and seems to be cheaper. What do you think?

RCFUSE is os9 only. At $99 it is a great app. Only issues I had was that loading clips was limited because of memory. It can handle 640*480 QuickTime movs but not very many of them. It's best with very short animations.

Rc Fuse is the old one. The new one is Fuse Infinity, two progs: a Visual Console much like Motion Dive, and a more refined player with higher output but less realtime possibilities.

click here for some info on Fuse Infinity and Motion Dive (also taken from Audiovizualisers). Both packages were recently updates so their software review pages are not up to date yet. (scroll to the bottom of the page)

Thanks for the info. It's such a confusing business when you're starting out. There seems to be loads of software out there but as of yet, not much choice for OSX. I'm considering using Vidvox Grid for my first gig in October as this is cheap, but i realise there's not much scope for realtime effects etc. I'm not sure though. I'm gonna download various tryouts now you've pointed me in the right direction, and see whats suits me best. thanks again for the help.

You can also try Arkaos VJ in the new version. You can get a tryout.
And if you have time to setup your own workspace, try my favorite "Isadora".
I'm working on PB 12'' too.
