Default VisualJockey "Picture Manager" Next Previous

Hi,

I've searched quite a bit on this forum but I haven't yet found an answer.

I am trying to manually control the image playback from the picture manager node in a FXC. How is it possible to go forward and back in the sequence of images? Is it possible to use the left and right arrows some how?

Thanks for any advice!

Cheers.

unlike resolume and arkaos which work out of the box, vjo is more a tool, so you'll need to set it up to do things.

first the picture manager:
1. new fxc
2. add a picture manager
3. double-click it to open the configuration dialog

the important bit we are interested in is 'Mode:', it's default is 'automatic switching (float)', we want 'Direct switching (bool)'. This will allow us to use bool inputs (keyboard, midi, etc) to go forwards/back.

5. select mode: direct switching, then ok (the images should stop switching now - dont panic)
6. right-click the node and select 'variables' to display the variable dialog.

in the variables dialog, you will see the variables drop-down has changed and there are new entries for next and previous. Lets assume you want to goto the next image when a beat occurs.

7. select 'next' in the variables and the required boolean beat (say gestalt sound/beat 04, or ssystem starte triggers/bass beat). the '>>' will become active. press it and the bool trigger will be added to the varables.

if all has gone well and you've got sound operations working then the image will change to the beat.

if you want to change to midi or keyboard then you will need to add the drivers to vjo and configure them, then add the required bools to the variables.

I know this all sounds complex at first - but you'll get the hang of it immediately, because that is all you need to know to work with vjo, there is nothing more than your imagination...

Thank you Mavrick!! Your comments helped a lot. I ended up connecting the next/previous variables to the gestalt pad. So button 1 and 2 trigger previous and next images. Wasn't able to connect it directly to the keyboard. (I'm using it as more of an animation tool than a VJ tool and I'm really impressed by the flexibility

Thanks again!!

To get keyboard listed as a control device in the variables dialog window, you need to activate the interactivity controller.

This is how you can do this:

go to File/configure/engine

click on the second tab "drivers" and click add
The window you get shows all the drivers that are currently not loaded
select interactivity controller and click OK
You should now see interactivity controller in the list of loaded drivers.

To configure the driver, select interactivity controller and click Configure.
Drop down the available devices menu and select keyboard
enable the device
click configure and add keys to the list (you need to add them individually)

I recommended you don't use keys that are usually reserved for functions all round the system, like the arrow keys. These could interfere with a default function they already have (the arrows are used in VJO shows for navigation). The number and letter keys are better as you can avoid triggering two things at once.
