Hi All, I recently bought a new laptop and wanted to wipe Vista + install XP to free up some processing. So far having trouble installing XP. Wondered if there was something built into Vista machines to block this? Tried a few pals and none of us can seem to make it work... Please help!!

nothing like that to my knowledge. If the hard drive is formatted there is no way that Vista itself could be lousing it up..from the grave.
Try booting with a bootable linux CD or something and have a poke around on the hardware to see if something's not right.

Why would you want to go back to XP? Get yourself a copy of 7, just as fast, if not faster and is much nicer to use.
If you really have to use XP, insert the disk from boot and format the drive before installing. |

(I don't represent VJF btw but...) VJForums does not condone the use or promotion of pirate software...just so you know.
It's not that much really, prices start from about £64 on amazon for Home Premium upgrade or £90 for non upgrade, which is the nearly the same as you'd be paying for a copy of XP. You wont regret getting 7. The only way of getting a legal free copy is if your school or college is part of the Microsoft IT Academy where you are aloud to download a vareity of MS software for free, so long as you are still a student or work there. |

XP is a lot more stable and faster than 7.
7 is nice in some ways but it still has many issues (and will do until SP1) this is always the case with windows software. to install XP (or 7 for that matter) you need to do the following. 1 look in your vista hardware device manager and write down every piece of hardware in your computer. 2 download the correct drivers for all your hardware to work under the new OS 3 burn the drivers to CD 4 get windows disk 5 boot from the XP installation cd / dvd 6 when you get to the bit where you select the installation partition you should delete your existing windows partition, then create a new partition for the new OS (50GB is plenty big enough) 7 format as NTFS and install to the new partition 8 when you have finished install you can use disk manger to create another partition with the remaining free space on the drive - use this too keep all your data on (right click on "my documents" and choose properties and then move it to the new data partition - then you can keep data in my documents which windows kind of likes. 9 install the divers you downloaded in step 2 10 install the programs you need and a decent antivirus such as avast free. you now have a fully working computer
