Default Modul8 bpm sync question

Hi!

Im pretty new to Vjing all together, so I got a few technical questions I couldnt find an answer to anywhere else.

1. Is there a software that works similar to kaptivator? I want to do the same as deepvisual does in his video "dancing to the beat" (http://www.deepvisual.com/vjschool3.html)

2. Is there anyway to increase BPM in percent in modul8? Lets say I make all my clips so the duration syncs to 120bpm. Is there anyway to make them increase to f.eks 140 bpm?

3. The moviescratch module: is there anyway to bpm sync this?

And please give any tips to syncing. What do you do to make the video sync to the music? its Im not running ableton 8 or anything. Im Vjing, and another DJ provides the music.

Thanks for all answers!!

Default Multiple Codecs Question

Hi!

Im making my clips in finalcut 4, but I think this question is pretty universal.
I have made a bunch of clips, but I need to modify them a little, add some lumakey and what-not. But I dont have the original uncompressed file.

Is it a big quality degradation if I add filter an already compressed file, and then compress it again?
The codecs Im using is PhotoJPG and Animation, all at highest quality.

Thanks, I was googling my ass off, but I couldnt find any answers.

That depends a lot on the source material. Just try it out that's the only answer.
In general however you'll soon find out that movies that are highly compressed are harder to manipulate than the original high quality file. they may look the same when you play them but once you start tweaking the colors or the brightness etc. the compression artefacts start showing.

What do you mean with "it depends on the source material"? What I shoot, or what I use to shoot? I use a samsung mini dv cam.

If you recompress an already compressed file you generally end up with larger files.
Everytime you keep compressing the same video file you will keep on adding artefacts. Less so (or none) if you you keep on using maximum quality. And for source material: if you have scenes shot with bad lighting, say night shots with a 1 chip DV cam, your will get grains, and the grains will look worse every time you recompress. And that's on top of the not so hillarious quality of Mini-DV.
