In my n00bness I did a quick search and found Modul8 does this quite easily - there's some great videos on youtube, such as this:

Now... conversely is there anything for the PC that does this in a simple way for someone with no experience to pick up and play with?

hey there bitSmasher,

i actualy meant the effects, because the positioning of the layers i get, but the illusion of deph(3dstudio+after effects??how exactly??) is what i've not managed, and stuff like the edge outline, that's what really's givin me a headache

if you want to pick up something use videoprojectiontools, it's made in max msp, but runs as a stand alone and is really easy to get into...and free...

umm isn't that the creative bit?

it shouldn't be too hard to workout how to make these kind of animations if your a competent after effects / 3d studio user.

I'll do one. I was going to anyway. - arctan, lens angles and virtual projectors.
just next week.
I'm too busy right now

btw I think all the mapping stuff going around at the moment is very poor.
haven't seen anybody do anything other than copy antiVJ.

err its not antivj that they are copying!

That's a total rewrite of the history of this stuff. I'd say the 2 most significant mappings that have inspired people to use the technique are the www.easyweb.fr guys and the Exyzt / Etienne de Crecy install. Neither of which has anything to do with antivj.

Antivj are doing some very good and interesting work, mainly stereoscopic 3d stuff at the moment afaik, they have done a bit of mapping stuff in the past but nothing on the scale or significance of the Easyweb guys.
