Try and connect your laptop up to other sources like your tv at home/monitor . What is the response there? It is not likely that the projector is incapable with your laptop it is more like Also update your video card drivers. If if are you up-to-date mayeb try and old one.

I used this laptop with another projector a while ago and it just worked right away no problems at all.
I have an external monitor and this always works fine too. On the video card drivers I have noticed that in the nvidia control panel my video image settings are set to - use video player setting, the other option is to use the nividia settings. Does this have any thing to do with my problem? Should I change my video playback settings to the nividia? Sorry if this sounds stupid! |

OMG, head is wrecked. Just tried to hook up my external monitor to my laptop and now the monitor isnt picking up the connection either. The nividia control panel is allowing me to use dual display.
It has worked perfectly fine right up until before I left my house on friday night. I checked it before I left. I'm gonna try to update my video card devices and see what happens. Am on other tech support forums too. |

You are rebooting when the display device (monitor/projector) is turned on they don't always detect from within windows. So power the monitors /projector on first, then PC

Yes, I have had the external monitor on first and then rebooted the comp. DOing the usual way - turning on external devices first and laptop last.
Now the laptop is sending me an error message - system modular bay cannot be identified. I wondered if this had anything to do with it. My dvd drive is no longer recognisable either. Been all over the net all night looking for answers but nothing. Lost. |

Still no closer to to a resolving this problem. Very strange as laptop is recognising an external monitor. What the hell could the problem be?
Looks like nobody seems to be able to figure it out or has experienced this before? When i figure it out I will post the solution in case anybodyhas the same problems in future. In the meantime it would be great if anybody had any more ideas please. By the way dont buy a dell xps or any dell for that matter. |

Firstly there's nothing wrong with Dell machines, I've used an XPS for the last few years, no issues, no crashes. Yours may however have a faulty VGA connection.
I'm betting it's your graphics card settings. 1st thing I'd do is return your machine to it's factory settings or return your computer to an earlier setting ie date, a date when you knew it worked with this set up. Use your NVidia control panel for the graphics card. If this doesn't work try using svid and if needs be to reach the clubs projector using svid buy one of these, they work fine and I use one to convert comp to s.vid for a monitor: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=28733 If all that fails speak to Dell. |

Just got my laptop back from the PC Repair shop. It turns out the motherboard is damaged somehow. So my video card isnt giving any output and my dvd drive is dead too. I asked how this would happen and I was told that it was just bad luck!
Have/had a few gigs coming up too. I have to pay 170 euro for a new motherboard. I only have this laptop since april. Balls! Probably a silly question but does the fact that my video card is unable to give a output mean that I wont be able to use a svid to connect to a projector either? Thanks

Dell comes with a standard 2 year warranty (next day onsite). Just give them a call and they will repair it for you at no charge.
DONT TELL THEM YOU TOOK IT TO A REPAIRER unless they are a dell authorised repairer. It may void your warranty.
