Default mapping in a museum

maybe not so much vj'ing

last month i was busy with a mapping project in a museum

its about the flooding of the south of the Netherlands in februari 1953
in this project the names of the people who died are projected in a long moving list on the sand (about 30 meters long).
visitors can read a name from the list and the speach recognition system then plays the story about that person

like this

projecting is done by 7 projectors ,projecting straight down on the sand in a row. Each projecting in 16:9 @1280x720

videosource is one macpro with four videocards (ati radeon2600XT)
running a maxmsp patch

the mapping was needed cause of the sand was in a small hill at the right side. used curved mapping. to follow the small slope.

first tried edgeblending to merge the projectors but the irregular sand made it look bad with the curved mapping it was quite easy to put all the projections next to each other

today the museum was opened by the primeminister of holland - balkenende -and his guest the prime minister of south korea (Han Seung-soo) . who has nothing to do with it but was probally just visiting and had no choice but to follow ...

now its open for public.
the projections will be there for about 5 years

that is really a nice installation piece. what an honour that must be. Out of curiousity where did you place the projectors? Also do the bulbs take lunch breaks?

projectors are at theceiling pointing straight down .

the bulbs run daily from 9-6 6days a week
which means they all have be replaced every 7 months in the next 5 years
that ~8 times .....

every time the mapping has to be redone cause they probaly move the projetors while replacing the bulbs..
