Default Is the Sony EX3 the camera to get?

I wan considering purchasing a sony ex3 in the next few months - just wondering if anything better is planned for release soon/has been released in the same price range?

Thanks
Sean

I am in love with mine.
Having got one, I am kinda drawn to something much smaller and less expensive looking as backup
there are good camcorders around the £600 mark by sony, canon and panasonic.

the ex1 and ex3 are great cameras for the money, they are as cose to HD as you'll get without spending huge amounts.

in the smaller cheaper camera field the new JVC camera looks really interesting.

really though, the color is just amazing.
it doesn't look like video.
But, and its a big but...
if you haven't got a top notch computer system to go with it, then its not going to be much use.

I love my EX1 it performs great, the work flow is great, all in all really happy with the camera. But I also have a HV20 as a little pocket camera. It is a full HDV progressive scan camera that produces lovely looking images. When you have tweek the colour setting it looks really film like (super8 or 16mm) which I love.

The 2 cameras are very different but I love the images they each produce.

Buy it.

I love both the ex1 and 3, amazing picture quality for the price - as Tom says, closest you'll get to top quality without going up to the bigger Panasonic ENG/EFG systems.

I've been shooting quite a bit on EX recently for demo content, will post a brief shot of some deer that I really like later today.

I just with you were in the UK so we could sell it to you

Here's the short clip, when I've put all the footage into our SAN I'll do a longer edit.

Shot on EX1 at 720p50

Hit HQ quickly to get the 720p version

DeepVisual thanks for the input - what is your definition of a top noth system? I am running a both a dual 1.8 mac with sata drives and a MPB - i find the MPB useless for editing video - perhaps and external would help - it just runs way to slow in capture and takes forever - The dual 1.8 runs nice - but can be slow - what type of system/drives do you recommend?

Thanks
Sean

Synoptics - that is some nice looking video - I plan on using mine mostly for time lapse and stock footage gathering. I been checking clips on vimeo /youtube - it looks like the image quality I am looking for. I am tired of gathering half ass looking video on my sony - only a singe chip

Sleepy - That looks like a nice cam - I will check it out - perhaps use it as a backup.

one point.
I have the EX1 not the EX3.

import takes around 1/5th the time capture does.
I edit on a MBP 2.5 ghz and a FW800 iomega big disc.
I mainly do basic edits in FCP.
any compositing goes to afx.
I'm very happy with the speed.
I remember editing a HD composition 2 years ago on some top end tower and it wasn't as fast as my MBP is.??
