Default VJ Central Re-launch -[Very Soon!!!] We need YOUR design [contest!?!]

Very good News!

It's been a while that some of our very fine and capable Mods are working on getting back VJCentral back to life [YAY!]
after the huge crash at 1987 b.c or whenever.

some of the new forum members might not even know what VJCentral is
so to make the long story short -that is how it's all started, Really.

OK, to cut to the chase
- soon enough "they" say we can go Beta on the new VJC,
with articles and reviews re gear /apps [updated!!]
and other surprises.

We need YOU guys, to send us your suggestion for VJC design.
So many talented Visualist around the house
- I'm sure some might want to contribute to the efforts
you ALL are welcome to send your design suggestions.

Layout
The design should work on 1024x768 and higher resolutions.

Contest entries should be presented as layered PSD files.
Layout should be a 3 column design with a header and a footer
(ie like the current site)

the side column will have links, tags, login box and ratings etc in them

the center column will be the main content.

They should be zipped and emailed to designcontest@vjcentral.com
-------------------------------------------------------

We shall run a vote on the best 3/4 design options
Like we did in the past with VJForums design.

to give us an idea of what the layout needs to contain, could you attach a screenshot of the previous layout, plus maybe another one or two which indicate what kind of direction it will should (?) be going in from there.

exciting proposition!

you'll be able to see the beta site soon - that will give you a much better idea of how it all works.

I've looked at the development so far and was wondering what the requirement for the main menu links was?

In the current Drupal theme they are at the top of the header, can this be changed to suit a new design? eg, below header or in left side column?

I'm also thinking of using a 960px wide limit to any design I have a go at, does this suit?

main links can go where you like - i prefer them in the header but it's upto you.
width wise all i'm saying is that the site must work on 1024x768 monitors - I prefer liquid designs as i have a 1920x1200 screen and just having the content in a little stripe down the middle annoys me. But it really is up to you what you make it look like.

The designs will be shortlisted based on asthetics, presentation of information, acessability and ease of turning them into a working site! anything which is a lot of work probably won't make it onto the short list. And we offer no guarrentee that anything will be used at all - in an ideal world we might have multiple themes which the user can select between but it very much depends on how busy people are when it's time to convert PSD into real website.

would fireworks png be ok?? psd is a bit too heavy and not soo good for quick scaling...

is there a logo for VJ Central which we could incorporate into design, or?

can i also recommend YAML http://www.yaml.de/en/download.html

No - layered PSD is the format that designs will be accepted in. The point is that the desings are graphical look and feel not finished web designs. You should design the logo as part of the design. Ideally putting each graphical element / button / menu / whatever on a seperate layer (or group if it would be benifical to have access to seperate layers within the element)

yaml looks cool - nice css layout with a kind of cool and stylish feel to it. http://www.yaml-fuer-drupal.de/ is encoraging too - but the main issue is needing to have a graphical design to turn into a layout!
