I'm looking forward to a solution to separate my output to be able to shown them on different projectors.
I have a three projectors setup. They should show one big image. Because the room is too short, I have to use 3 projectors standing vertical to cover the hole projection area. Will look like this: Code:
---------------------- | | | | | P | P | P | | 1 | 2 | 3 | | | | | ---------------------- The resolution is secondary, but how do I split one image into several separate pictures to output them? I found two programs to do this, Wings Platinum and Dataton WatchOut. First one splits a picture for local output, second divides it and sends the parts to network pcs to be displayed there. I like the network idea more, but both programs are way to expensive. Thats also why I can't use other components then standard beamer, nor wide lens or special beamer neither separated hardware. So anyone any idea how to solve this or some alternative programs or freeframe plugins? Or is somebody out there, who is sure, that this issue can be resolved with vvvv, then I will learn to use it. |

Im thinking you'll need a hardware solution for this either way (to get outputs at least anyway). Im just wondering if you could use a vj software with multiple outputs, output it to a TH2G (setup as another desktop) then simply scale it across three screens which output at the ratios you specify. But I don't actually know this would work.
Also checkout Salvation as I've seen a video where Inside Us All have used it to do something similar. You'd chain your video source then split it to three different screens. I'll ask Trey to let you know if this is possible.

A video wall controller might be the best way to go about it, something like this:

As neither the client or the audience will know or care about how you did it, I'd suggest you use two projectors and a double head2go, which give you a slightly smaller 8:3 image
its either that, or spend a lot of time and money to get almost the same result doing it your way. Last edited by deepvisual; 3rd November 2008 at 08:26 AM. |

I have made a salvation patch for doing exactly this with the triplehead2go
you could also do it in vvvv but the interface is so horrid that i wouldn't bother trying to learn it. salvation is just as powerful graphically as vvvv but is much more user friendly. it is also cross platform so if you switch to mac in the future you won't be without your video processing toolset. vvvv has some advantages over salvation if you need to do more programatical data processing, but for a simple graphics task as you describe i'd go for salvation any day.

Yeah Salvation can certainly do this, whether you have a single output running through a triple-head-to-go, or dual gpu's with 4 outputs total. Give it a try with the latest build, http://harrisondigitalmedia.com/sbeta_nov1_2008.zip
On any output window you can right-click, select "Span All But First" and it will stretch the video across all of the active displays (except the primary display where you are running the Salvation UI). If you need more help get in touch with me via harrisondigitalmedia.com Cheers, Trey |

Or Isadora, supports up to 8 stages if supported by hardware, but a dual gpu would do the trick

GrandVJ does multi-screen and wide screen with soft-edge. Up to 4x1, 3x1 or 2x2, using the two outputs of one machine. Check this video:

The problem is that we could only spend very less money, so hardware is surely above that limit.
Further problem is that this is no widescreen because the projectors are orientated vertically. So the original image should be cutted vertically and not horizontally like on normal widescreens. I looked at modul8 at a friends mac and with modul8, is it very easy to define screen areas and to output these areas on different screens. Perhaps I should give a closer look at other products, but I didn't found it on other programs yet. But still no three outputs. And no mac ![]() One possible solution I think of is to borrow a mac, run modul8 with virtual screens, if that exist. These virtual screens will be captured by vlc streaming it over network to clients outputing only a part of the whole image. Second possible solution is to divide the output with vvvv (or vjo, if somebody has he freeframe capable version 1.14 for me) and using bigfugs freeframe streaming plugins to distribute it over network. Is this right? Or did I misunderstood somebody or something? Did I miss a solution which is in my possibilities? Last edited by Cliffer; 4th November 2008 at 11:36 AM. |

why are the projectors vertical??
its not necessary. if you dont have any money, make the screen smaller and use two projectors horizontally. |
