Hello,
was looking ad buying a controller to use for scratching/cueing up visual clips and found Vestax VCI 300. I am really struggling to find out if it would work ok with any VJ programmes as a controller. Anyone heard of anyone using it? Any similar VJ products I could use? (also want to DJ tunes every now and then with the same controller). It should be fine to use I should imagine, but i really want clarification before I buy it. Cheers! Much appreciated. |

I recently stumbled upon the fact that with software like numark's CUE and PCDJ'S VJ you can play raw VOB files. Which any one who drags a mess of DVDs to a gig will tell you can be a back saver. I know for a fact that this control works with both of those programs and can be used for DJing as well. The only problem I have run across is that you have to have a decent laptop to run them on if you plan on doing a lot of scratching and active clip manipulation. Both programs also contain a midi mapping feature which will allow you to customize the layout.

i remembered hearing once that the numark total control controller gave a different midi signal from its platters than the nuvj, which was a lil harder to control video with...
Not sure how believable that is mind you.. just something i remember reading ages ago |

It is different. I have a NuVJ and tried to use it and was not happy with the jog wheels response in Cue.

Cheers guys. I'll bare that in mind.
I have a MacBook Pro so imagine the spec should be fine for live manipulation. Can you think of any other controllers/programs to fit the bill? |

The MixMan DM2 can be hacked for relatively little money, alot of VJs use it

turn it slow you get +1,+1,+1 turn is slow left you get -1,-1,-1 you need to add all these up to get the number to send to your timeline. I use vvvv so writing a little patch to do this is trivial. it should be simple in pd too. plus when you have learnt actually what the fuck is going on under the hood you can do more interesting things with the data. |

Hello,
What would be a relatively good controller to use when just starting out? I want to be able to 'scratch' clips. Was looking at the Vestax VCI 300 dj controller for it’s large jog wheels. Does anyone know if there would be any trouble using this DJ midi controller as a VJ controller? New on the block and don’t know if it would work with VJing programs – I’m guessing the keys could be assigned because it’s midi? Do you know of anything similar? I also feel it is important to mention that I also intend to use the same controller to DJ every so often. Any advice would be great. Thanks! |

I have a vci 100 for dj'ing
I have a codanova for VJ'ing the vci 100 (same as the 300* but minus the soundcard- I use an FA-66 firewire card - much better spec) is ok for Traktor - personally i would find it difficult to use that surface for VJ'ng - before the codanova I used an M-Audio trigger finger For the price of that + the FA-66 you might find that a better combination both on spec and usability I would suggest trying the options if you can find a friendly sales outlet/mates using the kit to let you get some 'hands on' *the vci 300 still isnt avaible for purchase as of last week when i last checked Last edited by PCProject; 17th July 2008 at 11:48 AM. |
