I have been quite reasonable about it and suggested to the g/f that she works 11-4

50/50... First off, I will not pay income tax on my VJing because it is unconstitutional(16th amendment) therefor I reserve my right as an American to not pay a private entity (Federal Reserve) an unapportioned direct tax. Cash in hand stays cash till spent, no paper trail.

I got me a west coast green card... and I am stackin cash at the moment, and from 12:00(wakeUpAndRageB*tches!) to 5:00 I play video games. I live in a hella nice house, I eat healthy organic food, and I am on top of the world. Oh, I sit online and learn a lot too, having an internet connection is way better that going to the library 20 yrs ago.

er, VJ gear and software has paid for itself, which is nice, but there is very few who can make it their real 'career' at least in the USA.

Where's the option in the poll:
poor and vj for fun?
probably applies to most.

used to VJ for a living, it was hard to make the financial ends meet, but I stopped after nearly three years because I wasn't enjoying it anymore, too many gigs with 146bpm ++ (horrible) music, and I missed seeing my partner and kids.

I don't regret it, but I do regret missing the opportunities that exist nowadays for a professional VJ (venues with projectors and screens, promoters who know what visuals are, artists who appreciate -rather than feel threatend by- visuals).

I would say - get out there and do it to anybody who fancied trying it out, but, bew aware it's hard work, shite hours, not regular pay - and try to stick to gigs which you are interested in.

Lots of heart felt words here it seems. I don't have a lot to contribute, as my rig is getting its first audience test next weekend, but I appreciate everybody's thoughts.

I'm sitting here at my 9-5, while my weather RADAR station is failing over and over for some irrational reason... I'm sure I'll figure it out after enough repetition, I've already built and tested 9 of these. The degree holding engineers are around the corner figuring out the cheapest, fastest, most generic way to integrate yet another overpriced system....

Then I look at all these amazing video rigs seen on Vimeo, and posted right here by forum members.... and I think to myself, "some people get paid to do that!"

And on that note, I'm assuming you are talking about Happy Hardcore, not some good DnB.

If that is so, you are absolutely correct!

I dont Vj for a living, but being a VJ helped me get my dream job. I rarely VJ now but am concentrating on live cinema instead.
I was recently in Norway performing an AV show with a Jazz trombonist, and I must say that was far nicer than being in a club till 6am.
In fact I've had it with the club scene and promoters, its just not where I'm at right now.
I think I have evolved into an live cinema performer and I'm very happy with that, it also seems a natural progression from VJing...like the big sister of the VJ...
