How much do you think we should charge for something like this?
https://vimeo.com/58049211 As you can see it is a lot of work. We are a team of 2 VJ's and this took us about a week to build and make animations. We spent all day setting up then from 10pm to 4am VJ'ing. Atm we are being paid £200 for a night. We buy all the materials for the structure ourselves and bring our own kit including projectors matrox etc So how much do you think we should charge in the future for something like this? |

I would not even think to do anything like this under 1000EUR a shot and most likely I would charge extra for equipment rental.
Unless there is something else for reward. |

Break down all the costs - your hourly rate, the kit hire and all expenses, make a nice, clear document of exactly how much everything costs and then take it into negotiations with anyone who requests a quote for this kind of work.
Once prospective clients see how many hours work goes in they will have a better understanding of what a fair rate should be. I would say that you are currently undercharging by quite a lot, but i imagine that's worthwhile as it has meant you can create promotional materials for yourself. |

Between £150 - £250 I'd expect to turn up with my MBP, Midi Fighter Pro, TV-One and a camera or two; for a plug and play set but I would expect the Promoter / venue to provide the beamers and projection screen / surface.
Equipment hire, tech and rigging should be at the going rate tbh, you wouldn't be able to dry hire laptops, controllers, beamers and an awesome stage backdrop like that for anywhere near £200. Let alone x2 mans work x amount of hours on top of that. Last edited by deanbob; 29th January 2013 at 02:06 PM. |

haha. promoters i used to work for a 4-5 or so years ago.
they're earning more money than you can imagine! Just to piss 'ste' off i'm gonna say you should be hitting them up for 2k minimum. in fairness, they've had cracking visuals over the years and never paid appropriately. but that's what to expect in that town, no one is gonna give you the fee's you deserve, get more experience and try for the best money you can. materials, equipment separately. then put your guys fee's on top. Don't spend weeks doing non paid animations specific for a custom mapping show, likely you may not even use that content again. you gotta practice somewhere though, so bear that in mind. good luck, show looked great btw! |

+ 1 for documentation and breakdown of cost.
I would take minimum 1000 euro“s for that, and preferably 1500, with materials and the extra vj on top. Then I would give them a good deal on projector rental.

If you take into account 50 working hours, and 1000 euro“s paid. It“s still only 20 euro“s an hour, which here is barely minimum wage. When you break down the cost it makes sense for the promoters. Of course, you can also offer them to take part of the work themselves. If they know good carpenters, let them do the hard parts.
