So to clarify -
The 'Clamp On BNC Plugs' from Maplins ( part number - FE99H ) do not need a special tool to fit them on to the cable. You screw them together after preparing the cable?? If this is the case then problem solved..... and althouth I feel a bit stupid, was under the impression my way was better

IIRC then yes the clamp on bnc connectors can be done with just an AJ. You should probably still crimp the pin onto the wire but you can use pliers for this.
TBH i think everyone should invest in a BNC cripmer and a load of ends - i tend to buy 100 ends at the start of the summer which last me a year in the tool kit. I don't buy from maplins - over priced crap supplied by idiots. www.cpc.co.uk is a lot better unless you need it that day which means maplins is your only option. cpc next day delivery is 100% reliable if you order via the phone rather than the web (they'll tell you if the stuff is instock on the phone - this aspect of web ordering is not 100% reliable in my experiance) http://cpc.farnell.com/TL11637/tools...k-tools-430026 is a good quality reasonbly priced crimping tool - i used to haved a really expensive one too which wasn't worth the extra money IMHO (unless your doing 100's of the things everyday then a £25 tool is perfectly good enough) - one of these type of coax strippers / trimmers makes the whole process a lot easier - when correctly adjusted it will remove the correct about of outer sheath and trim the ground connector to the correct length. cable boots make the whole thing look neat - personally i prefer to use heat shrink as boots - no reason for this really other than it makes more sense to keep a few bits of heat shrink than a load of BNC boots (takes up less room and can be used for other tasks as well as making cable ends neat!) disposable RG59 cable is very cheap but annoying to coil - i prefer the Van Damme stuff which is expensive but worth it if your making cables to reuse and repetedly coil and uncoil (i have home made van damme video cables which are still working 8 years later - well worth the investment) also learn how to coil cables properly! http://stagecraft.theprices.net/gallery/cablewrap/cablewrapping.mov

Thanks for the help people
![]() Tom - I have all the wire stipper and stuff for the cable prep...and working in the cable section at whitelight taught me the cable tricks.... although that means fook all when your wrestling 30-40m off a reel of RG59 heheI'm probably going to source quite a few, plus a tool, for any further projects... ..but for this project i'm probably going to have to pay the extra for maplins.... and take the other bits down with me at the weekend....other crew doing the cable trench thing mid week hence the reason I needed to get these faster....cos i need to give to the crew before monday....

well,, if you are going to do it.
why dont you think about what you need the cables for before you get the scissors out. I have 3 looms for onstage: 1 x 20m 2BNC & mains 1 x 20m 4BNC & mains stage to FOH: 1 x 50m 4BNC & mains |

![]() I visited maplins this morning, and guess what? none of the stock in that I wanted, although they did have some adapters so that I could finish off the ends... Luckily for me, the delivery from ccs came this morning, which meant the adapters from maplins+the F to BNC that got delivered, meant I could make the cables... bonus!! Have ordered 100 of each type, so next time won't have to run around like an idiot 'in' and 'outside' the internet ![]() Thanks again all who helped me out! if you need any adapters fast..... let me know, they are yours
