The traditional VJ is often relegated to the hidden corners of the club, just like the high school A/V geek. But, DJ Roonie G prefers center stage and the title of "DJ" before his name. A previous Club World Award winner, Roonie never ceases to push boundaries and take his performances on Pioneer's DVD turntables (which he helped develop, and now demos regularly at industry events), and the art of VJ-ing, to the next level. This year he continues his energetic live video mixing performances all around the world, all while maintaining residencies at Jet's A/V party, Atlantic City's Casbah, and Saddle Ranch Universal in California. -RL

Funny old thing, I think I predicted this a few weeks ago as possible "in thing" this year. And we've not even started to see the impact the SVM is about to make When every DJ using the thing will be called a VJ.

He uses A LOT of hollywood samples in his mixes... everybody who's behind him in polls should sue him

Unfortunately I think these guys will draw attention to this very thing more so than traditional VJ'ing has done in the past. Obviously we'll all pay the price for it, the guys who enjoy sampling anyway.

According to the "Club WORLD Award"
the world seems to be very small(-minded) and
restricted to the US only.

So this alone takes the quality out of and
disqualifies this "world" award.

Good sampling has its charm, but in the end it's all the same and
nothing more than technique (which is important for all of us) and
the (wise) decision which samples to choose.

I want to give credits to Roonie G. on this way,
because he calls himself a DJ rather than a VJ.

This is what most of these guys do..
..jockeying (digital versatile) disks.

As always ..
being the most successful does not automatically imply being the best.

Originality and most important aesthetic quality will succeed in the end!

No! Got me wrong..
..therefor none of these would have won anything
(tbh I haven't seen all reels).

But I have read in the former posts,
that some are worrying about the fact,
that the sampling VJs draw all attention on them,
leaving those who work hard on their footage and
for their own original style in the shadows of the clubs.
