Well I give up, your obvious set in your ways, if thats the way your company works then clients always eventually leave for agencies have the correct methods central to their whole philosophy, whatever the argument its discrimination, architecture, signage all have had the same arguments but in the end the law slowly becomes the accepted standard, whatever your views they are not legally correct. Agencies these days should always quote in for this, its all just excuses.
Just a sign of a poor agency if they don't think its an essential part of the quote. Last edited by evomedia; 4th November 2008 at 06:44 PM. |

The legal aspect is a load of poppy cock anyway really - and you can't compare bluechip corporate sites with your average website budget. It has been a legal requirement for Australian websites to have a privacy policy if you are collecting any type of personal data for , at least 10 years. In reality - I've never heard of a business being tried for not having one (even gov departments don't have them in many cases). The same will go for accessibility.
I mean - when I create a brochure I don't have to create a braille version as well. Teletext subtitles for the hearing impaired are not compulsary either, and this technology has been around for years. On average, 2% of browsers have javascript disabled - probably a heck of alot higher than the % of visually impaired people visiting your website. Does that make AJAX/Javascript wrong? Jasper is Australian based - and is selling video clips which I'm sure the blind wouldn't give to hints of shit about. Flash based sites can offer interactivity and glamor that html/ajax/javascript won't get close too. I would never recommend a 100% flash based website myself but it is not 'wrong' to make a flash based website. It has it's downsides but also has its upsides. Im sure you all agree that it is better to use a combination of the three if you have budget and the scope is right.

flash, dhtml, drupal version 6 with the jQuery functionality ... all good.
![]() so ... at the moment, the webprogrammer, "Aza", at previewlounge, is very keen to "realtime convert" for previewing clips. this means that ffmpgX actually sits on the server and actually converts 640 by 480 Movs into 280 by 210 FLV's with a watermark on them. however, my wise friend zubin who is the programmer for 'wicked weasel' said "and then what happens when thousands of people want to preview clips all at the same time?"\\ fair enough! i reckon the preview FLV's should be prepared beforehand, but if the server can handle it, then why not. Wicked weasel - thats that bikini shop yeah.
Whats the benefit in realtime conversion? I would've thought a straight pre-rendered preview would be better.

Like I said, these anti-Flash arguments are funny.
Arguing against a web technology or a programming language is like arguing against a hammer. They are tools. Use the tools well, and let your work speak for itself. I use whatever I can get my hands on to do the job the way I think is best, and what is best for the client. I suspect the people arguing against Flash are not advanced Actionscript developers, or they wouldn't be here complaining about flash, they'd be making good money developing great web applications. Although please remember that I think HTML, php, javascript, css, drupal, wordpress, etc., etc. are all great. |
