Default DM2 hacked!

got some good news for all you DM2 users: I finally received the DM2 that videotechno sent to me 6 weeks ago!
But even better, I hacked the driver protocol yesterday, so it is now very easy to write an application or plugin for some VJ-app that supports the DM2, or a DM2-to-MIDI mapper!!

The next thing will be to decide *how* all those buttons and controllers of the DM2 should be used. Perhaps some of you guys already got an idea how they want to use the DM2 in their favorite VJ app? (for example, use the track buttons to enable effects, the lock button to enable effects permanently, the solo button to 'solo' effects etc...).

Thumbs up pdoom you are god

Thats amazing news pdoom! I'll be eternally grateful for your skillz and thanks to videotechno and morph for everything.

In the short term, I think a DM2 to MIDI mapper would be the most useful, alot of VJ apps support MIDI so there would be an "instant" way of controlling the software. The MIDI mapper would be a good way for us to figure out how best to use the DM2 for more customized plugins etc in the future.

I'll help out in any way I can with beta testing or whatever is needed.

thanks

Quicksnail

yep great news for sure. I have to agree a midi mapper would be a great idea to start with, but i also think the in the not to distant future a full custom app would be cool.... pdoom i pretty much have a full description and setup ideas for a custom app for it already, get intouch via msn grmuir@hotmail.com

WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO looks like this dream is finally coming together.

Great news - would also prefer a generic midimapper 'cause I've been dreaming of using this as a controller for my audio .... I'm in awe , Pdoom ...

Wow, I didn't know there are that many DM2 owners on this board!
I'm working on the MIDI mapper now. It's just a little program that will send MIDI commands (controllers, notes, program changes, pitch bend..) to a MIDI port. This means if you want to feed the MIDI back into another app, you need a virtual midi cable like 'midiyoke' or 'hubi's loopback device':

http://www.midiox.com/myoke.htm

I will include as many useful settings and configurations I can think of in the app, and then I will release a first version here so you guys can have a look at it and tell me what is missing.

ps: I've just been scratching an AVI in vJo using the DM2
