I use a pelican 1620.
It has wheels and is super sturdy.
I use it primarily for webcasting gigs for which I pack a mixer, tools, microphones, cables, adapters, a snake, etc.
You could easily fit a video kit in one of these.
They're about $200 on ebay.
I ziptie it shut and advance ship it to the hotel where I'm staying.
When I'm done I fill out a fedex form and leave it with concierge to ship it back home. It's about $40 each way to/from most places in the US.
I take a carryon with my laptop and a few changes of clothes.
I don't trust airline luggage service to get the tools that I need to work where I'm going.

kudos to crumpler, love their gear!
i got a photobag, and i love how it doesn't _look_ like a photo bag, and thus draws less attention of the shadier elements of society ;-)

btw, i don't get why your products have a different name in every region? what's the point with that?

are theives stupid where you live? crumpler bags look like crumpler bags - the nearly always contain either a dSLR and / or a macbook pro. Anyone who can afford the utterly insane prices which they sell for is clearly going to have some stuff worth nicking.

crumpler bags also have stupid names and they don't seem to make a 15" laptop bag (only 13" and 17") sorry but i'd rather spend the same amount of money and actually get a protective case (eg pelicase or zero haliburton) or spend less money on a regualar laptop bag (which isn't called "Mrs MacBains baby is drinking stout and weisles" or whatever nonsense crumpler have decided on this week...)

I love this bag for traveling. Hands down.
Amazon.com: Targus RG0322 5.4 Matrix Notebook Backpack Fits up to 15.4-Inch Screens (Metallic Black): Electronics Amazon.com: Targus RG0322 5.4 Matrix Notebook Backpack Fits up to 15.4-Inch Screens (Metallic Black): Electronics

I've managed to cram a 1 RU matrix (altho not fully zipped) into it.
but it regularly carries 2 laptops, ext HDs, extension cords, ~100' of svid, powerstrip, mouse, midi controller, and all related power supplies.... all at once with some room to spare. it can get big though, and has to be "massaged" into luggage racks/compartments....

ALWAYS carry on. I haven't flown with gear... usually take a train or driving being the ideal situation; so can't say with planes. our mixers are in RoadRunner cases available at your local music store. very sturdy, I'd still be frightened to check them as "luggage".
I'd be more apt to have mission critical gear shipped via an insured freight carrier if I couldn't carry it on.... that is if I couldn't drive 22 hours nonstop to get where ever...

the stretchy cord partition is really nice for cables.

build quality is top notch. zippers have given up the ghost recently... but still function fine under "normal" conditions... we VJs don't subject things to "normal" conditions tho...
my partner burned through that exact gigskinz bag in less than a year.
