Hi all,
I used this forum a lot while doing research for a feature I wrote on www.thethingis.co.uk. The stuff on here has been very helpful, and I thought you might be interested in the finished item, which includes interviews with Hexstatic, Eclectic Method, VJ Anyone and Nico who runs the Cuisine night in Bristol. This is the link: www.thethingis.co.uk/index.php/2008/01/05/vjing-projections-and-reflections/ |

Incidentally, any feed back on this would be very welcome, I think we are going to be doing some more visuals oriented stuff in the future, so its always good to know what people think...

Few interesting bits in there hectorvox...thanks. Instead of interviewing the so called superstars of the VJ'ing and AV world get out, out of London too and into some of the clubs and bars to meet some of the VJ's who are really keeping the visual scene in the public eye of the UK clubbing fraternity week in week out.
The lads who often work free or end the night to see the promoters disappear into the horizon with their hard earned $ or are forced to accept very poor payment. The guys who spend hours helping clubs install projectors and screens so the so called superstars can come waltzing in to preach to DJ Mag and other publications afterwards about what they are doing for the scene...... Sorry for the rant and it's certainly not a personal attack on you or what you're doing. I just have felt for so long now that there are good VJ's out there getting a raw deal from so many. See if you can sort it

Just to add to that, I'd be very interested to find out and read more on the guys behind the big gigs and concerts...the faceless, namless guys...the guys behind TV visuals too. Rigs, techniques etc etc etc. So much you could include.

Good effort..
The only little suggestion is to check the spelling on the title for Interview with Nicolas Boritch of-Cuisine Anti VJ its spelled Anti not Anit same would go for permalinks.. in a wordpress it easy to fix.and Modulate spelled as Modul8 (in VJ anyone interview)p.s with SteveG cue... requests.. hmm Production techniques (at the end of the day, production takes up the biggest chunk of your time in comparison to the actual performance.. if anything this would definately have to be highlighted) I would also like to profile some of the main software developers for VJ software, without those guys many of us would be not where we are today. Resolume, Open TZT, Module8, VDMX, Arkaos, Visual Jockey, Max/Jitter, Pd, Open Source Software guys, Freeframe plug-ins guys, etc just to name a few. i think it is a great beginning, congratulations. you have got your feet wet in the ocean of video artists.. hopefully you will learn to swim, by taking the time to find the as-yet unknown gemstones that are out there.

Thanks for the info on the typos!
If we do something like this again it would be good to go a bit more in depth with the unknowns and behind-the-scenes types. I hope that the interview with Nico gave the promoters perspective. The feature is, at least partly, aimed at people who've never really come across VJing much, so I wanted it to give a bit of a flavour of whats out there without being too techy. Anyway, thanks for checking it out! |
