their is a lot of difference between making clips for the web and clips for VJIng - if your compressing stuff for the web then h264 is probably the best option (wrapped as flash gives best compatibility / wrapped as mov is a bit easier to export for edit systems)

You can use the demo for 2 or 3 weeks but anyway I am not sure if it all works as promised. I am checking it out-since I got some Premiere tutorials- but more to get better general editing ideas, not learning Premiere in paticular.Last night tried to export directly to Flash. It looked crap, there were some noises visual and audio so finally exported from Vegas to QT and then converted to flv with Flash encoder. You can really appreciate Vegas when you try other software that misses lots of stuff taken for granted. It might be different for other kind of jobs but as far as getting clips for VJing done, Vegas is the easiest and fastest for me. If I want "traditional" editing software then I rather use free Avid then premiere.
I wouldnt bother much about myspace, Youtube formats, in the end it all looks, sounds crappy.

I tend to export from Premiere losslessly, then import that footage into AE and then export that using a codec like DivX/Xvid as a (for youtube for example) 320x240 square pixel file...

You can also try something like the simple standalone DivX converter... Which actually works pretty damn well if you want a quick compression fix with less hassle.
