is it possible for a vj software to locate and utilise the quicktime pro in/out points as an alternative option for clip playback?
would it require a plugin for quicktime to record the coordinates as a txt file? |

hmmm..
quicktime as a container is pretty amazing! the things u can stuff in there! hehhehe! besides the traditional audio, video and mpeg tracks, u can actually add up midi tracks, txt tracks, vectorial/swf tracks, image tracks, subtitle and timecode tracks! so.. u'll just need a way to pull the data from there! * ) r_x

It would be nice to store beat points... or emphasis points. Eg with a dancer clip you could store the swing, stomping or jumping. With the right software this could be used very successfully. Time to start an open source standard I reckon.

however, if a mov contained say five layers, i do think that might put a strain on the CPU. if the data was to be accessed, then pre-rendered to a temp folder that the app could then use, might be a less processor-intensive way of doing it? not sure, just some ideas. i do think that vj apps like movs to be 'flattened', as in, exported thru photojpeg codec or similar. perhaps things are changing, and multi-layer quicktime movs are handled efficiently and promptly by a vj app. |

u can simply have a qt movie with the video plus a midi track on it!
on the midi u can store all the data spots u want (cues, beats, emphasis, your birthday!? ) lol i don?t think it will cause much more processing.. now the thing that bugs me is how to record that midi track, of course one can build it beforehand and pronto but what if one wants to edit it or create it on the fly?

qtime pro can record video from the firewire port, so at some point it will be able to record midi from the usb port potentially. |

it's saved in the VDMX set file not inside quicktime but the functionality is already there.

what are Warp points... general specification of a point in the clip somewhere.. then assignable to various values, for different available fx options?

With ES-X (based on Max/Msp) it's possible to store trackpoints for every clip. A text file keeps track of every point. Simply load the file and it automatically loads the trackpoints as well. You can jump to a trackpoint with a midicontroller, or let the program jump to them in straight or or random order right to the DSP input or tapped speed.
I used them with really good result even with movieclips 30 minutes long!!! VDM5 has included indeed included warp point but it's not possible (yet) to jump to specific points warp points |

you have some good ideas sir!
hmm was konfused tho by the fact of both the links (ES-X and warp points) lead to the same place - the vidvox forum post re/ warp points. aha i found the ES-X page.. thx dude for mentioning this, i had not even known about this vj software b4. http://www.thisserver.de/john_dekron.php looks cool, going to dload the demo now... being able to "play the warp points like a keyboard" sounds like a fantastic idea to me. |
