do many people do this bar the mac users? im looking into a new computer in the future and dont know wheter to buy one or make one. what do other people do. and also what are the pros and cons of both buying and building from your expericence? thanks

hell yeah. i'm a macbook owner now, but until recently i always built my own PCs.
it's cheaper, it's fun (and easy) it makes them a lot more customizable and it forces you to learn about the hardware you're using, which is always important. i'd never bother with a pre-built desktop (bar a mac, possiblah).

I've built and repaired computers since the pentium days, and have been happily computing since my first Sinclair ZX.
I can emphasize on the point of research before you buy. Other than that you could look for some CompTIA A+ material on hardware, it's the standard intro to PC hardware and is a good benchmark for the basics. |
