Default Abelton and VJ software

Hey there,

Just wondering how many people are using abelton to sequence VJ software these days? And are you doing in between two machines or on the one? What kind of stuff are you doing?

Thanks

-Vish.

I use Ableton + Arkaos on one laptop, with MidiYoke to send midi signals from Live to Arkaos

I've been using it on 2 slow machines (PB 1Ghz for arkaos, PB 400Mhz for ableton) to produce this set.
Would be interested in running it from one faster machine $ome day.

Eh, monsieur croustillant (or anybody else),
do you know if there is a similar app to MidiYoke that would work for the Mac?
-by the way: good work on the autodetect MIDI value and VJschool+blog antics

also: do you have sound coming out from Arkaos too? can you re-route the output via Ableton in order to control their respective levels?

Yes i'm also working on this kind of super-looper stuff.

At the University of Wollongong we have started a Digital Video unit where students learn Arkaos and most use Ableton Live to drive it, over Rewire. You can sequence Arkaos with any Rewire master, which includes Pro Tools and Logic. (The course is being run on G5 Macs.)

I also took this Live/Arkaos system and did a performance for UnSound06 @ Wagga - you can find the clips at http://sevcom.com/wagga/turdpolish.htm
I used a Toshiba Satellite P4 laptop running at 3.2GHz which worked quite reliably so long as you don't use Freeframe effects.

You do not get sound out on the PC although we noticed sound out on the Macs.

I would recommmend using Rewire.

I use Live exclusively for simultaneously DJing, VJing (including controlling two remote pan/tilt/zoom cameras and a wireless camera), and lighting (21 DMX lighting fixtures), all on one computer. Getting audio, video, and lighting choreographed and working together tightly is incredibly powerful, although there's lots of prep work, and it's very busy live!

Once I'm set up, I don't even look at the Arkaos interface, and only need the Live interface for dragging and dropping Live clips. Everything is controlled with MIDI controllers through Live. The power of Live clips, Follow Actions, looping CCs as LFOs, various MIDI effects, virtual MIDI interfaces, and the video and lighting always being automatically beatmatched and synched with the audio and with each other, no matter what the tempo, is really useful. And being able to sequence and fire clips that contain audio, video, and lighting with one button is really powerful, too.

Check out the free Live demo. It can hugely expand your VJ potential, no matter what VJ software you're using.

Default Wow!

Hambone I always knew you were at the top of the abe - VJ tree. I would genuinely like to come and be your appentice/tea maker for a few days, maybe some time in March if you have gigs. I will help carry boxes and set up if you show me a bit about how your rig works. I'm in Devon, where are you based? PM me if you would. Maybe you are not looking for free assistance, but the offer is there.

Anyone else? I'm interested to know how common it is to use abe + VJ soft these days...

Thanks for the offer! I'm in Suffolk. It's all private/corporate stuff right now (wedding receptions, etc... I'm sure most of you guys would rather stick ice picks in your eyes!), but I'm trying to get some more creative work going.

We'll probably head down Devon way when motorcycling weather improves. Maybe we can meet up then.
