Default New Year's Eve 2007

Hey fellow Vjs,

I just got my 30.12. booking. Did some of you already start preparing content for that night? What are your plans/ideas?

Last year I met with the DJ a week before and we completely premixed 30 audiovisual minutes (around midnight), with countdown, etc. We started the DVD 15 Minutes before zero and rocked on the floor with the crowd and our girlfriends. People were totally fine with it. Good vibe.

Cheers, D-FUNC

Yeah, that sounds smart. If you're going to start a countdown start it like 30min ahead of midnight and let it be the "official" countdown running in plain sight for everyone to see.

DON'T try to start it 60sec before midnight, as I flubbed it last year... With 3 different morons each with a different time on his watch trying to insist "when" midnight comes.... har har.

Ya, I like the idea of a long running (official) countdown.
If you start 60 seconds before (as I did last year) people are like "Shit I have to pee and find my friends ... and now its 2007!"
;-)

You can download midi clocks and have them sync via your machines clock and so as long as your machine is showing the correct time all is well Even better take a small portable TV and tune in LIVE to your local celebrations....cant go wrong then and all will realise your spot on with the count down........clocks yet again Oh Hum what fun

i had the same problem. 30 mins is what i'll be doing it at this year i reckon and it'll be better than the 30secs!

the only option for countdowns is for video to be in charge - if your putting big numbers on the screen then you will be the definitive clock regardless of anyone shouting into a microphone.

best solution is to run a separate computer with the clock / countdown on all night. put a tv onstage where the announcer with aforementioned microphone can see it easily (on the floor by the front of stage wedge monitors is a good bet) - they will use your clock to do their countdown / whatever so you can relax in the knowledge that perfect sync will get the new year in smoothly.

BTW it doesn't actually matter what time it really is so don't worry about internet time syncing or any of that nonsense - you can even prerender your clock onto DVD if need be - as long as your in charge of the official time you can't really go wrong!

@sjg707: Actually I once built a flash clock that reads the computer time. Of course a better looking one.
;-)

Sometimes I play it to get the people out of the club at 6 o'clock in the morning. It does the job!
