Default Game console as visual generator

Hi
Has anyone ever tried to generate visual from a videogame console? Like a PS or Dreamcast or Atari or something?

I have a couple of PSOnes lying around and would like to know if theres a way to use them as video generators.

Either by downloading some software of modifying/hacking the console itself. I remember some application on the PS that showed some visuals when you put a music CD in.

It would be great if theres a way to insulate the circuit which produces this kind of things and give it a different source from the PS CD.

Any ideas?

There was a shooting game from Squaresoft for the PS, that is sort of a music thingamabob. you put in your fave music CD, and the game would generate data out from the CD 9attack waves and the like)
The name of this game escapes me now, I'll let you know, because I surely want a copy :P

I did use Atari glitches for making clips. Pretty damn useful, specially in combination with TV glitches

Your PSones are good doorsteps, matey ;P

The only shooting game from square that I remember was "Einhander"
But I haven't seen that feature.

Yeah cool but we're missing the point I don't want to record a live game on any console. I`m looking for those abstract (winampish) animations that some consoles can produce reacting to sound.

For the PS1, I'm afraid you are out of luck. The visualizer only works with audio coming off the CD. There are a few other audio-reactive titles, but again, they only pay attention to CD audio.

At some point I'll have to post some video of a live performance I've been doing with the band "Freezepop." They were featured in one of our PS2 games called AMPLITUDE, which is a music remixing game. When they perform live, I mix the game into my VJ mix, and have someone play the game for the band, which creates the backing track for the song. The band plays along, singing and adding keyboards on top of the game backing tracks...until the player loses, and is humiliated! It's pretty fun...!

I've used Baby Universe (a japanese title... hence the need for a chipped PS) with a wireless controller... it responds to music (throw in appropriate BPM CD) but also features a lot of control from the gamepad... the wireless worked well, even in a crowded club... I could sit at the bar and control the visuals... people looked at me a lil funny until I handed them the controller and said "check out the screen" then they lit up with big ole smiles! it's more slanted towards trance (IMO) but worked okay @ my house music shows too
