Default VJ Eye Problems

Today I found out that I have a detached retina and will need surgery tommorow
I kinda lost my vision in half my left eye, but the doctor thinks its been happening gradually.

I'm not sure if its due to VJing etc as my sister had a severly detached retina operated on last year.

So anyone else had any eye problems...any specifically vjing related?

i'll keep my fingers crossed for your eye surgery tomorrow, vision is pretty essential for us visual folk..

the only visual prob i have is +2.5 and +3.5.
as a kid I always broke my glasses and noticed I could see rather well without, and when going to a new school at age 12-13 I told my optometrist this, not wanting to start out high school with a nerdy attachment. I was amazed he thought this would be a good idea, telling me this would train my eye muscles well, and that wearing glasses would make my eye muscles more lazy. He also told me I'd be back at around 25 cos i'd get problems seeing as soon as I was tired. He was right. So at around that age got back to an optimetrist and did he have a hard time estimating my lens strength/fault.

It turned out my eye muscles had developed so strong, they couldnt tell what kind of glasses I needed cos my eyes would accomodate for any kind of lens they put before them. I had to wear this prototype thing in the waiting room for 40 mins with my old recipe in, and just relax my eyes, no reading allowed. Only then could they tell what kind I needed now (more or less same as 20 years ago)

I still break my glasses often, not vain enough to try contacts and too scared to try LASIK...
I kinda like girls who wear glasses and I hope the feeling is mutual (even tho I still never wear em..)

sorry for OT rant .. best of luck tomorrow gal!

well i haven't noticed any vision loss but i probably have some be sides being a VJ I'm also a laserist and well most people that work with laser have vision loss to some degree even if its not noticeable but as far as the detached retina thing goes it happened to a friend WHO is a NYC promoter (Jason from the black cat crew) yea he had a really bad 1-2 month period
basically i saw him like one month and the next time i saw him he told me he went to the Doctor for some pain in his eyes and was told both his retina were detached and he need surgery right then and there then a week later he went to the hospital his appendix burst and oh before all that started he was was in a sling for about a week with dislocated shoulder
and he survived it all so things could be worse but get it taken care of and good luck

Jeezas that makes me feel much better

well the upshot is that I dont have to have surgery today but in 2 weeks time.
Apparently i have had this detached retina for a few years!!! I have been walking around with a quarter of my vision missing without even knowing about it.....mmm the blind VJ!

they will be fitting a buckle to the inside of my ey and mending the tears in the retina amd I should get some of the sight back but not all.

Time to start on my Braille series of visuals then

anyway ta for all the lovely messages and keep rocking.

PS if you ever get a flashing swirly bit of light going across your eye then see the doctor immediately...as this could be a sign of a detached retina.

I got completely blinded in one eye by a 30w YAG laser 8 years ago.
At the time I had been having a row with the Laser Op about him using the laser in a dangerous manner , when the laser head slipped and I got scanned in the face at 100m.
My eyesight got progressively worse and the next day, I remember being at the eye hospital and not being able to see the maglite the doctor was holding 3 inches from my right eye. I remember thinking that there are not many famous blind projectionists and I began to get seriously depressed about the whole business.

luckily It was just a bad case of arc-eye and not a complete retinal burn, so after a week looking like the invisible man, with bandages over my sunglasses, I finally could go out in the daylight again without it hurting.

The moral of this story and my reason for sharing it, is that the laser guy completely denied all knowledge of the whole thing.
Seems you can't rely on other people to do their jobs safely.
