Default Internal or external hard disk with VDMX 4.2 ???

Hi again everybody!

I have this two hard drives below for my performances. But i dont know which of them I should use to get a better performance, what do you advise me?

Hitachi 2.5" internal hard disk drive specifications:

Capacity:80 GB
Rotational speed (RPM): 5400
Data buffer (MB): 8
Latency average (ms): 5.5
Media transfer rate (Mbits/sec, max): 493

Seagate 3.5" external hard disk drive specifications (Firewire 400 connection):

Capacity: 160 GB
Rotational speed (RPM): 7200
Data buffer (MB): 2 (SATA)
Latency average (ms): 4.16
Media transfer rate (Mbits/sec, max) (External): 100

Anyway, I'm gonna buy another external disk in 2 months, and I want to know what would be the best specificactions (for my live performaces with VDMX 4.2) for an external disk (I have Firewire 800 connection). Can you help me?

best setup with vdmxx is two external drives, one for each bus.
I would definitely go with the higher speed external, and get a second when you can.
If you have a fw 800 connection, you might want to think about getting external drives that have one as welll...

cheers

Are you sure the SATA 7200rpm drive only has a 2MB buffer? Seems ridiculous.

You have two hard disks, not 200. Put some clips in one of the disks, and the same clips in the other disk. Try those clips in your favorite VJ app, and TEST FOR YOURSELF which one goes smoother with as many layers as you can play.

If one has more or less cache or rpm can be irrelevant in the context of your two specific drives (one can be broken or heavily used and lost it's speed advantage).

Qu? te podemos decir nosotros, que no puedas comprobar tu mismo??

Como consejo trata de tener tus clips siempre en dos discos duros diferentes (y salvados en DVD)

Good VJing!

You can see it at www.seagate.com home. Put ST3160021A (this is the model number) in the last cell of the form called "Find a disc drive".

What's your opinion??? Is it importat to have more buffer for vjing?

Buffers are definitely very important. I think the main issue here thought would be the system/vj application drive also being the drive you access for clips I believe. To be honest I would just buy a new external drive with 8mb cache.
