Default return of the Boards of Canada

the mysterious BOC has a new album to drop in Oct - "the campfire headphase"
(there are aparently fake? tracks circulating)

they included celuloid proto VJ's since their early performances, and are named after the educational films that they sampled

I've not seen them live (it's rare?), but they're one of my fav. bands now - relaxing yet interesting.

Any good BOC stories out there?

I first heard about them while at an Aphex Twin show.... they're a Warp label artist(s?) AFAIK, which instantly adds +2 cool points to any band in my book.

are they touring? do they want VJs? who are their VJs (are the VJs them?)

..j...

ALL of them on 1 night? Must have been one helluva show, that's basically the pantheon of IDM gods

I've heard they don't like music industry nonsense, and don't promote / play many shows.

I'd GUESS they'd play a few dates to support the new record, probably with an associated VJ? ( There were once more than two members, it was a tribe, with visualists included?)

Huzzah!

I love Boards of Canada, I always find their music oddly nostaligic from my childhood. It reminds me of the weird music you'd get in cartoons like Ulysses31.

I'd love to VJ for them at some random cafe stage at Glastonbury, I can't imagine it getting better then that. I've already come up with lots of weird loops that go nicely with their music.

They're Scottish? That's probably the last place I'd have guessed they were from, good to see British bands producing amazing music like this.

i have managed to get hold of a around 40 of these films from late 60's all in mint condition with tiltles like ' sequence and meaning', 'likely of not', 'de l'hexagone, families of lines and circles',' est-ce vraisemblable', 'mouvements tectoniques', 'extension des naturels and simple patterns to name just a few . but unfortunatly i have no projector that will take the cartridge.
if anyone has or knows anyone that has a dual 8 projector then get in touch

I have the goods. I am just waiting for my studio to get finished before I start a project that involves digitizing about 50 of those cartridges

good description, I agree. Could be because I saw many films like that as a kid (NOVA), including one that was sampled by them. "they created a device to capture a dandelion in once piece"

but something within the music itself evokes a primal, child-genius mindset (hard to put such things to words.)

(what's Ulysses 31, btw?)

That film about hexagons seems likely to have been used by BOC, they love hexes. ( as do I )
