there is nothing to stop such discussions, but the board does have a video focus and as such it might be wrong to have more posts about random topics than anything to do with art/vj/video
I don't mind having the odd non-video debate, just so long as when someone comes needing help for video as long as they don't: a) feel unwanted due to having different views to those expressed by people in random debates b) have loads of random mess come up when they search for video related things. In the end we exist to promote VJ (in all its forms) and educate/support/help the community that's grown. |

Holly: do you wanna talk about "Hitler" or why the "Candian hates the Americans"?
Actually, we could start asking... Why the people of the United States call temselves "Americans". Because Venezuela is America too and we call ourselves "Venezuelans" even we are Americans as well like the Colombians and Argentinians and... Canadians. You have no clue how upset people from the center and south feels when the US say "this is America", we all say "No, that is United States who thinks that way". Any way, can some one from the US explain me whey you call your selve "America" and "Americans" owning the entire title?

IMO
usualy no one finds what THEY want in old threads , people normaly start a new thread and get their replys there , so the searching part .. skip its ridiculus not leting people discuss what ever they want if mods find some threads really usefull , make a zone in vjcentral for article kind of posts. so they wont get lost FREE THE FORUMS ! |

neo - i was chating about this the other day, and it seems to be a time based thing whare things are discused be "x, y, and z" at such and such a date which then dictaes that they have "crosed that bridge" as it were, so those inderviduals feel/think that they dont need to go over that ground again - hence the serch concept

oh joy. a "serious" conversation about having a "serious" conversation. Does the navel-gazing get any worse than this?
Rei, when I say I'm "American" I refer to a people of mixed breeds: European, Asian, African, Native Americans, Hebrew, et al that were likely born here and who's genetic lineage is so mixed as to become irrelivant -- and yet dominant. My generation grew up with this idea of the Great American Melting Pot? where interracialism and interculteralism were actually GOOD things, and yeah it was just propaganda from a liberal era, and no doubt I misinterpreted it's message ("when we said multicultural we meant that we'd have a Mexican retaurant in the neighborhood and cheap Chinese cleaners...") to reflect me and my own mixed-race family. We grew up with this idea of "american mutt" and it was something to be proud of.... It was supposedly what won WW2 (we were told) and would eventually prove us better than everyone else, economicly and socially, because America (ie THE AMERICA aka United States) is a microcosm of the whole world coming together.... But of course that was just me being a naive child and those liberal ideals are long gone if they ever really existed at all.... When I say "I'm American" I do NOT refer to some arbitrary political border that was drawn just because yet another Euronation wanted to go to war and funded it by selling land they never owned in the first place, which is what "United States" means. Not to mention the fact that only 3 generations ago my family was fighting the Last War of the Apache against both the US and Mexico and trying not to get genocided along with the rest of the the pacifist natives. Rather than be forced onto a concentration camp -- OOPS i mean indian reservation, my grandparents asymilated.... Which, btw, it has equally always struck me as ironic that a blue-eyed blond-haired person would be so adamant about calling himself "Venezuelan" because you don't look much like those jungle/mountain people with the donkey and the hat I see in trite exotica-films.... This rhetoric sounds like those Palistinians who don't really want to figure out their own country, but they're so damned pissed there's an Isreal and that's really what they want to bitch about. Guess what? When Venezuela is the dominant society you get to call yourself whatever you please, "American" or Argentinian" or "Martian", as you wish. Until that time do not presume to tell everyone else what to do since you obviously have no authority to tell anyone to do anything. Life is what it is. If you are unhappy about something start with changing yourself (perhaps start calling yourself "American" and see if anyone cares). You won't get anywhere trying change others first. (obligatory smilies to show this is all oh-so-tongue-in-cheek: oke: etc)
